Right back at ya Moonman?!? This one looks like it might come from the same resin lot and with those shiny threads, even the same factory as the recent Moonman Leo clone...

Two companies sharing the same materials and the same designs?

As per Leonardo's specs they use Italian Acrylics and and turn their pens in Italy so I don't see Moonman using the same acrylic for the prices they charge. I expect Moonman and other companies use mass produced acrylic. But for all we know the acrylic is used in some other industry and sells it in mass outside of Italy... In this case the amber acrylic doesn't look quite the same. But the acrylic Edison has used for years does look almost exactly like the stuff used by PenBBS, Moonman, Hero, etc. I expect some factory is suppling a number of companies with acrylic.

Hmm, maybe the material is the same with Edison, Conklin, Pen BBS and Moonman, but what about the thread? M800 does not have metal thread. Maybe you are refering to N3? I'm not sure Messenger looks like a copy of N3.

Sheesh... The Messenger design does not appeal at all to me.

Don't know but it just doesn't have that x-factor that the Momento Zero and Furore has.

I was thinking the same thing. :o

It looks so Moonmanish to me and such a departure from classico Italiano Momento Zero and Furore designs

I get the limited edition artificial scarcity run and JoWo nibs could be a draw but it looks in the same class as Pineider Avatar

I guess if Messenger gets a successful sell out Moonman will come up right behind with another "homage" B)

Looking at the Messenger even closely the more I am turned off.

The overall shape, the center band, the metallic threaded part on the grip section. I have a feeling this won't get as much love as their Momento Zero / Furore.

Update : Just heard from the PenBoyRoy podcast that the Messenger in Caramel acrylic is actually taken from Taiwan so there is a probability that Leonardo is using the same acrylic as the ones in the PenBBS and Moonman pens. In the podcast Roy mentioned the Amber color and not the Caramel but I see no color named Amber in the Messenger line so I guess he wrongly said the color name.

Also if anyone is questioning the credibility, Roy I believe is quite close to the guys at Leonardo Officina Italiana so there should be some truth to what he said.

Maybe he is right. I was checking the dealers and while Goldspot Pens says it's Italian Acrylic, sites like Fontoplumo and Stilografica don't say and Goldspot seems like they are mostly using placeholder info.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
