Wing Sung 699 Flow Issues?

Has anyone else experienced these? If so, what's an easy fix? I've tried most things. The tines don't look misaligned, neither does the feed.

You need to unscrew the plunger knob if you want to write long period. Just like custom 823.

Ok. Didn't know this. Thank you. Out of curiosity, what is the reason for this?

Because so much ink creates a leakage potential, so it uses a safety valve. When the plunger knob is fully closed, the valve is closed to seal the ink reservoir. So you are only writing with what is left in the feed to write with, which will only give you few hundred words if you keep the plunger closed.

I did what you said, and it made the issues a lot better, but the pen still hard starts and skips consistently. Very annoying. Any suggestions on a fix?

Oh, gosh. At this point, you're basically back to any basic pen maintenance thread and the accompanying diagnostic questions. How long has the pen been exhibiting this issue? Did it ever work well? What is different between then and now? What ink(s) are you using? What paper have you been using? Have you flossed the tines?

I recently adapted a Ranga ebonite feed to mine, and fitted it with a #6 Knox nib. After the initial heat-set, when I use iron gall ink (ESSRI), I'm getting the same hard starts and skips you are experiencing. I switched to Noodler's Whaleman's Sepia (the wettest ink I have) to see if there might be an improvement. There was, so now I'm experimenting with other inks like Pilot Namiki Blue and Cross Black. So far, so good.

It's just a matter of being systematic and examining/exploring all the variables. I think of the old, German guy who used to fly in to fix problems I had with my printing press. No matter what the issue was, he always started with making sure it was plugged in. Then he checked the fusebox and circuit board...eventually he would check the lines on all the ink and water rollers...and so on. He made sure that everything was correct and to spec every step of the way to eliminate all possible points of error.

I hope this helps. Keep us updated on your progress

This has become one of my favorite pens. It does have a tendency to dry out in my pen cup but the dehydrating can be slowed by storing it horizontally. Really a remarkable pen for $20!

I really do like it, and I would have to agree, but the skipping is the only real issue.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
