Where To Buy Fountain Pen Sacs At Reasonable Prices In 2020?

Does anyone know if the fountain pen sac co is still in business? Their website seems to also be down. I tried contacting Peter Amis via email, but have not received any replies. He is usually very good at replying to emails within a few hours. His prices were very reasonable. Now it seems all the remaining vendors sell sacs, but at almost twice the cost!

I usually buy them from a online pen store like Peyton, 5-star pens, etc... at about 2 bucks apiece and years of service.. that is plain cheap.

Oh goodness, I hope Peter's OK. I get my sacs from him too. He was at the L.A. Pen Show last year, perhaps someone who's attending can give an update.

I think I heard that his partner had died.

I have purchased mine from Pentooling. They offer a bulk pack of many different sizes that's good if you plan to work on a variety of different pens.

One possibility is that pensacs.com had an issue with their hosting provider, and moved the site (or the provider blanked it). I've found that many (most) people with web sites haven't a clue as to how to back everything up.

And in a few cases, the creator of the sites for them hold the domains and site hostage.

Not anymore. Looks like they just doubled their prices?! What a ridiculous markup:

And it looks like indy pen dance followed suit.

It took a couple months, but Peter Amis's website is up and running again. The format of his ordering method has changed from what you may have been used to, so read his instructions and order form carefully.

Considering how long they've been selling the sacs for the _same prices_, I don't find that pen sac having raised the price 50 cents per sac an atrocious tariff.

I do believe they need to update the text, however. It still refers to their being in business only ten years since 1986.

The Pen Sac Co is, as far as I know, the only operation manufacturing sacs. Others may offer them for sale, and they may offer somewhat lower prices because of their volume discount, but nobody else makes them. That will change as they have to replace their stock. Martin Smith at Woodbin made his, but he passed away almost 2 years ago. Peter has kept his prices pretty level for a long time, but price of materials etc do go up, not to mention the inflation rate. It effects me directly, but I'd rather pay more for the sacs that I must have for my business, than see him go out of business because he isn't making money. He keeps the pen community, and many business going, by making the silly things available. I'm grateful for that.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
