Presumably a very recent charge of today's non-IG variety? My specimens of Lamy's non-IG (when it came out in December 2012) and the IG before that are both much less grey. Maybe a new version also because the drying times for mine are 15-20 s (for the newbie) and 55-60 s (for the oldie).

I'm not sure that photo is representative of the ink color. I say that because the dots on the Rhodia paper seem to be much lighter than normal.

The pen might be a little on the dry side. The scribble is closer to what I perceive the color to be. I think is perhaps a bit bluer than it appears here, but still not very blue. This was from a Lamy BB cartridge.

I'm still plodding along with one of the three bottles I bought, of the 'old' IG version before the formulation was changed. Think I'll stick to the 4001 Blue-Black thugh!

For the #50shadesofbluechallenge (link to the hashtag on Instagram), a challenge over at the German PenExchange forum for July & August 2020, I inked up all my pens with all the 50+ blue inks I have. The snapshots might also be of interest to some here.

Lamy Blue Black is one of my favourite blue blacks. It is vivid and beautiful shades and behaves well.

I had it in a Pilot Custom Heritage 912 FA.

Since I had two other blue blacks (Montblanc JFK and Sailor Sou-Boku) in my other two CH 912 FA, I post the comparison here also.

As you can see, Lamy BB is leaning towards grey, Montblanc JFK has a more blueish tint and Sailor Sou-Boku is the greenest of the three.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
