First Time Sending A Pen In For Repair

I bought a Conklin Mark Twain Crescent Filler a while back and inked it up and noticed ink was seeping into the section.  I contacted Yafa and they are repairing or if they cant repair they will allow me to select any pen of equal value.  I've been told that repair is more likely.  It's been a few weeks and it is still being repaired.  I asked for an ETA and the answer I was given was more or less when the tech is finished.

I know each pen repair is different, but I'm sure many of you have experience in this area; how long typically do pen repairs take? I know an exact time frame is unreasonable to expect but I would welcome a ballpark.

It depends entirely on the competence of the repairer. Yafa are, based on what I have read here and on other pen fora, not likely to inspire much confidence in that regard.

I politely disagree.  I sent clients pen to them for a repair that I couldn't do.  They did it in a couple of weeks, without having to send it to Italy.  I was impressed.

 

They may have a backlog because of the holidays, or just a backlog, or may have to order the parts in.  If you sent it to any one of a number of independent repair shops, you'd have been looking at 12 weeks or more.

I was on the other end of that scale. I sent my Stipula Etruria in to Yafa for repair. It was an older model with internal/captured converter that the end cap had sheared in half. I thought it would be a relatively easy fix to replace the proprietary converter, but alas that was not the case. The pen was sent by Yafa to Stipula in April, 2019. I got it back in December. Lots of calls, questions about status, etc. 

I can't lay the fault at Yafa's feet as they did send it to Stipula in rather short order, so the delay likely sits with Stipula in Italy. 

Still, over eight months...

On the bright side, the pen came back looking and working beautifully.

Just a note that Yafa is a distributor and a manufacturer and they represent more than one brand.
