Best Printer Paper

Recommended Posts

On recommendation from this forum I bout a ream of HP 32# premium paper a while back to print my own inserts for my arc notebook/planner system. I ended up using a bunch of it for work stuff and when I just went to order more I noticed the package changed. I came here and saw some thoughts that the new one isn't as good as the old one. It's time to print my 2020 planner (I put it off, I know) I just wanted to check if that is still considered the best paper to be using? (I wouldn't mind something a little lighter because as nice as it is it can get a little heavy. but I love how it feels)

HP Premium 32lb paper, in my tests on one package, seems the same or not quite as good, but still decent. I don't know if it varies from package to package. The old version is 98 brightness and the new is 100 brightness. The newer HP premium24 still seems pretty decent and lighter in weight. Again, whether these vary from batch to batch or package to package, I don't know. https://www.amazon.com/HP-Printer-Paper-Premium24-Letter/dp/B00006IDS1/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hp%2Bpremium%2B24%2B24%2Blb&qid=1578069949&sr=8-1&th=1

I got the 100 brightness version a few years ago, and was surprised to find it far less smooth than expected, and my otherwise very smooth Sheaffer Triumph nibs were dragging like a flat tire across the paper while also decreasing the line size by at least half. I generally don't mind if the paper is smooth or textured, but this was unusable....

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! I'm using HP All in One 22. The brightness is 96. It comes in a yellow package. I buy it at Costco.

It works well with most FPs and inks, with no to minimal feathering and bleedthrough, and little show through.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
