Are Penbbs Colors "one And Done"?

I'm hoping not, as there are some colors that aren't currently available in colors I like and vice-versa.

My impression, Awa, is that they are made in batches, and more popular colors tend to come back. Often these colors show up in whatever model is in the latest batch, not necessarily the model that you want. It seems that if you encounter the color and model that you want, you should buy it immediately, because that combination may not come around for a while.

Bobje is on the money.

It seems like they do occasionally reserve some versions a bit more than others, particularly clear acrylic. Demand for the clear 355 was pretty insane but supplies were kept limited.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

What I am wondering about is the pattern "Silence" seems to be one of the unpopular models in their line up (many models with the pattern are still in stock) yet they keep adding it as a choice in their newer pens (the 500 to be exact).

Also talking about "one and done", the new pattern of Winter Night (491) and the Sakura (500) looks stunning.

They really aced it in my opinion.

Where have you seen Winter Night (491)?

Where have you seen Winter Night (491)?

Beforehand just to clarify that the 491 refers to the model and not the color coding.

Winter Night is a new pattern they introduced to the 491 models which has been sold out in all nib sizes (at least on Etsy, haven't checked ebay).

  • 2 weeks later...

Most colorways are produced in batches, as others pointed out. Autumn, Hawaii, etc. sell out fast, but they all come back eventually. However, having closely "monitored" Beini's Etsy store over the last 12 months, I suspect that limited editions such as Nian Gao and Silence are one-off batches that are not released again for a given pen model.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
