Hello! Glad to join you! Just wanted to introduce myself. The name is pretty obviously Nadine. I fell down the fountain pen rabbit hole 2 years ago and after some crazy accumulating phase I am very content with the babies I got.

I mostly use them in my bullet journal and on postcards (I do postcrossing)/ letters. I love the pens of course but also the writing itself. Going back to pen and paper in a digital world was wonderful. I love the calligraphy way with flex pens too (came very handy to be able now to create nice tags fror presents at Christmas).

Don't ask me to name a fav pen... But fav brands are Pilot, Twsbi, Lamy and Pelikan.

Last year I was in Heidelberg to visit the Lamy flagstone shop. I hoped to be able to visit the fabric as well but they don't do tours or such. I got the Al-Star Bronze there and it will always remind me of that trip.

My bigger fountain pen adventure was to visit the pen show in Cologne last year. But it was just too overwhelming to take it all in.

Anyway... I hope to learn a lot here and make new fountain pen friends!

Welcome to Fountain Pen Network!

Thank you for teaching me something. I never knew that Lamy's flagship store was located in Heidelberg.

This site has many experienced, kind-hearted members.

May you enjoy your visits here as much as I have!

Hello Nadine and Welcome!

I have a very good penfriend from Germany, Vellberg!

Out of your pens, I only have a Lamy. I do have a collection of old Watermans, Swans etc but my enjoyment of those has dwindled since I discovered dip pen writing! Now I have a lot of different dip nibs that I enjoy using.

I am on the website A World of Snail Mail where many members also do postcrossing, Incowrimo etc.

I have not done any post card swops but I have slowly been collecting an assortment of post cards that are merely collecting dust on my shelves - I really must start using them!

Anyway, I am sure you will find lots of interesting things on here on which you can spend your hard earned cash!

I have recently started getting a collection of pencils and notebooks!

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

This was new information to me as well. I was surprised to discover the Flagship Store in Heidelberg has been open for about 4 years now. I visit HD fairly regularly, and I am sometimes just down the street from the store, and for some reason, I never noticed. Strange. But I won't miss it next time. :)

Welcome! You will find lots of great information here and many suggestions to expand your collection.

Next will be the ink accumulation phase.

Cheers,

Ozzy

Yes, welcome and please enjoy your time here.

Also, do not hesitate to ask questions. We all learn from each other and as this is all voluntary, you are wasting no ones time in asking as those who want to will respond and through the process we will all learn more so as to hopefully enjoy this activity more.

This hobby is different than many others hobbies as there are not an almost endless amount of books on the different aspects of it as there are with some hobbies: few places have active pen clubs, there are only a handful of periodicals concerning pens, there are few classes one can take to learn things about pens and those classes are only at some Pen Shows, there are few knowledgeable proprietors of brick & mortar pen stores to talk to in person about pens and so, except for some YouTube videos and blogs this place will likely be your primary resource.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
