Who Gave/received Fountain Pens For Christmas?

I got an amazing pen for Christmas this year! It was accompanied by a beautiful leather writers medic bag from Galen Leather too! The pen is a Waterman 5 Color band in red ripple with red stripe and red nib. Its in impeccable condition, it writes and flexes like a dream! I was truly spoiled this year. Other pens in the bag are a LAMY Safari, Waterman 52, and custom RKS L16 in Amboyna Burl with an Indy-Pen-Dance 14Kt full flex nib. -Z

Welcome to Fountain Pen Network!

Thank you for posting that great photo!

Both the bag itself and the contents are pleasing to the eye.

If it's ever comfortable and convenient, a self-introduction in the Introductions Forum would be welcomed by all.

Happy Writing in 2020!

Tom K.

I like that case which one is it? I don't see it on their site. Do you find that the elastic is stiff? I've got a Giorlogio (or something) case from Goulet. I hate how stiff the elastic bands are that are meant to secure pens. I always feel like they're going to scratch up some pens that I want to keep in pristine condition.

:W2FPN:That's a wonderful pen case ZWUM. This is your first post, but you've been busy building a nice stable of pens. Congratulations.

Enjoy!

I found a link to that case: https://www.galenleather.com/collections/writers-medic-bag

Oof, almost $300 converted into CAD! Appreciate the link, I was looking under "pen cases". I don't think it's in the cards! I bought 8 pens recently. Most deeply discounted but still added up to a pile. I'll have to give this one a pass :(

I gave my nephew (18 years old) and niece (15 years old) a Lamy Safari (fountain pen and mechanical pencil set each). Today, my niece sent me a picture of her, writing with the fountain pen.

I didn't receive any pens for Christmas but bought a Pilot Metro. for my cousin. She is very frugal, so I don't think she will fall down the rabbit hole, though I supplied her with paper, ink samples, and two *yes two* lists of resources to check out, should she ever decide to get into it. I think she was a little overwhelmed! Ah well. We shall see if it works!!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
