Posted elsewhere but for Australian buyers after entry level Lamy

www.penshop.com.au have BOXINGSALE coupon code where there are some entry level Lamy pens still available for 50% off.

Not really any premium fountain pen(s) left with that discount.

I haven’t shopped from penshop before but have an order in.

$44.98 after discount for a LAMY cp1 fountain pen in black is pretty damn good. However, it's a bit of a worry that there is no indication of nib width grade on the sale/in-stock unit and no option to select the nib width grade, on the model's product page. There is a text field during the checkout process that the customer can put notes against the order, but that doesn't mean the retailer will supply the type of nib specified therein.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Penshop been around long time so no worries there.

But I'd be more worried about experienced retailers selling commodities at 50% off especially storewide... if stock is supplied normally through regular distribution channel, they'd be making a loss off trade supply price alone. They're not a clearance outlet, I can't imagine every item supplied at cutprice from wholesalers. And it's not a "loss leader" either if everything in store is halved.

Does not make (economic) sense. :/

I ordered the LAMY cp1, and requested in the notes that I would like an EF nib fitted on it if possible. Customer service from The Pen Shop was prompt and good, and my request was fulfilled. (Thanks Deb!)

One of the items I ordered turned out not to be in stock, but other variants I also put on my order are (or were). So keep in mind that the stock levels and/or availability shown on the product pages may not be current.

Different mentions of the eligibility criterion for free domestic shipping seem not to be perfectly aligned. The Terms and Conditions page on the web site, states, "All orders over $100 include delivery." Elsewhere on the site, including the Delivery page, it seems that the $100 minimum has to be made up of pen purchases. In my shopping experience yesterday, it seems that the online shop application will only offer Free Shipping as a (default) selectable option if the total price of pens before discounts is $100 or more; the $100 (after discounts) worth of leather pen cases did not appear to count towards the eligibility criterion, and so I ended up ordering an extra pen (or, more accurately, mechanical pencil). That said, in subsequent correspondence with Deb, it certainly appears (although I don't have written confirmation) that The Pen Shop would be prepared to refund the shipping charge, if a customer raises an issue with shipping being charged for an order of more than $100 but not all being for pens and pencils.

The whole website is a mess which could use proofreading.

Postage seems to be quoted piecemeal... so if you buy more $100 (of pens, whatevs) all those nickel&dimes gets waived?

Why does Quink & Lamy ink say "plus $10 a bottle"

https://www.penshop.com.au/product/parker-ink-bottle/

vs Skrip & Waterman say "plus $10 per delivery"

https://www.penshop.com.au/product/waterman-ink-bottle/

Too much thinking! My peabrain can't take it in this 43degC heat!!

Well, no, the $10 per bottle (or "per delivery") doesn't get waived, when the Terms and Conditions page only states:

PRICES

Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. These are subject to change. All orders over $100 include delivery. Refill prices include delivery, which is $4 per pack and ink bottles for which there is a $10.00 charge due to the necessary packing requirements by Australia Post.

so the "inflated" price of a bottle of Parker Quink black ink ("$11.95 each plus $10.00 per bottle") would still include delivery; and, if the system determines that your order meets the free shipping eligibility criterion (or criteria?), then it will simply allow you to select a $0 shipping option (as opposed to Express Post and Courier Post, for which there would be additional shipping charges).

If you want to consider (business rules) inconsistencies in all that:

  • The "$10 per bottle" charge is halved if you apply the BOXINGSALE discount code, but the discount does not apply to any shipping/delivery charges added at checkout time.
  • The per-bottle "delivery charge" built into the item price of Noodler's bottle inks is $4 and not $10, even though they are at least equally as heavy, fragile and/or messy as Parker Quink ink bottles.
  • Oh, and when you select Black from the drop-down Color menu for Noodler's "bulletproof" inks, you see a picture of a bottle of Montblanc ink instead.

I was wrong... re post #3.

If one make things so confusing for customers with so m any surcharges, maybe one needs to discount by 50% to get stock moving... perhaps!! Profit margins irrelevant.

Admire your patience in persisting enough to checkout. I went crosseyed and zoned out after 2 clicks...

Perhaps not "(economic) sense" if the business wants to continue to trade in a manner that makes it worthwhile to remain in business, but what if it was 跳樓清貨 or a "fire sale"? The web site today has only one page:

fpn_1578198973__the_pen_shop_in_business

The order I placed last week is in transit, and Deb from the Pen Shop has shown me a photo of it being over the counter at the Balgowlah Heights Post Office (postage assessed and paid on the spot, as attested by the details on the "Postage Paid" sticker on the package), but even though it's a delivery within the greater metropolitan Sydney area (in which operations have not been suspected or affected by bushfires), it has not been seen or scanned after the initial "Received by Australia Post" event a week ago. I've lodged an inquiry against it earlier this weekend.

Australia Post is like that ... simply terrible about tracking. I often have one registration when the item is posted and then nothing until it turns up in my box. At least their international receivals are usually reliable about logging that the package has arrived in Australia.

Christ, I didn't see that coming...! BushFire sale huh...

Meh if it's "received" it's received.

It's just AP. Since that Priority sticker thing came in... I once had sent to me a large letter (containing 1 magazine). Friend posted it from the next suburb... vic to vic... took 10d to arrive!

5 mins drive away.

I second the comments about Australia Post... e.g. I've had a notification that my item was coming today, the day after I received it.

The small print says that delivery dates are only estimates subject to change. That at least is true.

Glenn.

I received my parcel early yesterday. No reply has been offered by Australia Post to my inquiry as to what happened that entire week before delivery occurred, just that (by automated business rules) it now considers my inquiry resolved.

The Louis Cardini double pen cases are very nice, and great value for $25 a pop. Too bad I only managed to get three of the four I originally ordered. (One was discovered to be out of stock after the order was accepted, and the item refunded prior to shipment of the other items.)

Frankly, given what is now apparent as to what the intent was, perhaps the discount code could have said CLOSINGDOWNSALE instead of BOXINGSALE. It would probably have attracted more sales, especially with people on FPN spreading the word. FOMO and all that, when it's made clear there is no tomorrow and no second chance.

No Stock anyways :)

They still haven't come back up huh.

Who knows, these last few weeks the whole nation is in a total mess with all the bushfires.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
