That is, outside of Montblanc.

 

Im in Honolulu for another couple days and could fine time to look at fountain pens.

I checked out their website, some of pens look nice, but I see metal grip sections, which is a deal breaker for me. I’d check out their store except that it’s not open on the weekends. Bummer.

I stumbled upon a retailer that had a large selection of his pens, very beautiful pens, sadly the fountain and rollerball models all had skinny, metal, grip sections. Bummer.

I relented and visited the Montblanc Boutique, I would have pulled the trigger on a burgundy JFK, but with the exchange rate and the local tax, its almost the same price as back in Vancouver, I might as well support my local brick and mortar.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
