The Toronto area seemed to run out of Aurora about 24 months ago... and no one I spoke to was sure about whether any would be returning. Then, about 3 months ago, Aurora black reappeared at several pen shops. No one could explain why there hadn't been any available during that gap.

Unfortunately, this doesn't clarify things, but it suggests that it is possible that Aurora are just experiencing some sort of distribution slow down (and aren't doing a good job of communicating what's happening). That seemed to be the case here for almost 2 years.

Hopefully the black ink included in the new line will be as good as the original.

I don't think it has been discontinuished.

It is available in the 2 shops where I'm used to buy inks and pens:

stilografica.it

goldpen.it

As you are in Europe, you can buy it there.

It's alive and well....

Why would Aurora discontinue....stop making a popular product that has worked so well for the company for a long time?

Re your dealer...no idea why they are out of stock....Perhaps your dealer and Aurora are?

And your dealer will not discuss their business relationship with Aurora.....Why should they?

Aurora has released (slowwwwly) their expanded “100th Anniversary” ink line, which includes Black, Blue-Black, and Blue, as well as new colors. I think those three are the same as before, but in different bottles. Unclear if Aurora will continue carrying the expanded line or if they will revert to the three standard colors after the anniversary stock runs low.

I like to buy inks in local stores. You get it instantly + support local business + it's cheaper :D

So I gave a try to "J. Herbin ( a local brand ) Perle Noire" and I am not disapointed by the deep black

much more deeper than Waterman Black and Sailor's version ( mine used to tend toward the dark green side )

Good points :

- Deep black even with an Sailor F nib as deep

-Inks flows extreemly well bettter than aurora

- much cheaper for me

the bad : :(

-Ink is a little bit wet. Excellent for dry nibs like aurora or platinum.

-It makes my fine nib a medium fine.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
