Broken Montblanc Pen

Hello

Today I bought a montblanc fountain pen. The problem is, I can't fill it because a part has been broken (bought it like this).

My question is, can this be easily repaired? I'm just scared if I send it to montblanc they will replace big parts and charge me a lot.

(The pen is laying in water to clean it because it was clogged with ink and a little bit dirty)

Hi fellow country man !

The piston lead spindle sheared/broke off

This happens sometimes when forcing piston movement on a heavy contaminated -nearly frozen - piston.

The original lead spindle being rather weak, I mostly replace them with a reinforced Ketron Pek version,See :

I would at least ask Montblanc.

On one hand if this was a standard pen (i.e.: a 149 model) they have a rather acceptable flat repairing price (considering the pen's price) of less than 100$ (if I remember properly). On the other, being a special edition I don't know if Montblanc would cover it under that fixed rate. All in all, better ask to know.

Based on the linked discussion and the fabrication of stronger-than-factory parts, if it was my pen I'd ask Francis for a quote.

Agree, this is a no-brainer!

You won't be disappointed with Francis' work, it's a bit of a task, to remove the 'C' holding in the broken part of the spiral.

For such a gorgeous pen, I would only trust it with a qualified repair-person who does great work. It sounds like Francis fits the bill.

If Francis is willed to help, let him do the repair!

Also I agree with Francis' diagnosis.

In case it is just the internal part Montblanc might charge only around 100 €. Otherwise repairs on older limited editions will cost much more.

Good luck and I hope you can enjoy your Carnigie soon. A truely beautiful pen.

Cheers

Michael

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
