Opera Master Series

Hello Pen friends,

Im curious if anyone knows how to access images of the complete range of Visconti limited edition Opera Master pens. Im interested in seeing the evolution of the design (e.g., when did they start using the hook-safe lock?) and the various themes and finishes theyve used.

If anyone is an avid enough collector to have them all, Id love to see them.

I didn't know they ever used the hook system. All the Opera Masters I can think of have threads.

I've had a handful of them. I think the Tobacco is one of the ten prettiest pens of all time. I've let go of all but one (even the Tobacco) because I find the metal section and fill knob make them too heavy for regular use.

I love my Chatterley 10th with the celluloid section and fill knob. I also would like to see what other model came with non-metallic sections.

I used to have a few Operas, but stopped getting more when I realized that, despite their stunning design and plastics, the pens were top-heavy and not very well balanced.

I know this doesn't help you, but I would also like to see a photo collection!

Very similar to those that posted before me... love the Opera Master, beautiful feats of engineering and design. But. That metal filler knob swings the pen around like a pendulum. I had to sell mine.

The opera master silver dust does not have the metal filler knob, and it uses the hook safe. I suppose both changes were imposed to address the issues with the older ones of being imbalanced and of the facets on the body and cap not lining up. I’m curious to see when these changes were imposed on the line. Siverdust is 2018. I have not seen a special edition opera master for 2019.

Is the silver dust an opera master or a regular opera?

Master, I think. It has the double reservoir powerfiller.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
