Gf Piston Filler Inspired By A Mixture Of Vintage Mb Features

Hi all !

I’ve just finished a prototype of a "new style" pen I’ve designed in cooperation with a pen friend .
This unique pen - which will remain in my personal collection - is made in Tibaldi Impero celluloid.
The pen shape is somewhat inspired by the early Montblanc safeties, while the pen is a piston filler equipped with a Montblanc 14X telescopic filler.
Ensuring a comfortable grip, the section grip is made 2.5mm longer compared to a MB139 pen.
Note the filler can be completely unscrewed from the rear , no need to remove the section to replace the piston seal.
The central GF marked cap ring as well as the 2 side rings and the clip are solid silver
I’ve riffled the 5mm wide cap top collar and on the filling knob -on which the riffling is functional - over a length of 9 mm;
Between the barrel end and the filling knob I’ve installed a silver ring which kind of balances with the clip ring.
The silver GF cap logo is mounted in the cap top and covered with a transparent convex acrylic disk which acts as a loupe.
As always your comments and critique are most welcome !
Kind regards,
Francis

Beautiful. Is the filling knob wider than the barrel? Also what is the jewel on the clip? Again, a beautiful pen thank you for sharing.

Thanks for your comment dubhee !

The rifled part of the filling knob is 0.25mm lager in diameter compered to the barrel.

The jewel is a Tibaldi Impero pinching plug press fitted in the clip.

Very nice, Francis. I like the pen.

Wow!! Francis this is one of my favorites that youve designed. I hope that this new pen style is one that you will some day offer for purchase especially in the impero celluloid :)

Hi all !

Made a contemporary silver ball clip for the pen.

Looks a nice alternative to me, which one would you prefer?

Best wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2020 !

Oh, I really, really love the pen with this clip. Gorgeous.

Also, I appreciate the ever so slightly wider diameter of the filling knob, it makes for a very nice balance.

Actually, the pen looks very well balanced (I mean visually).

Just wonderful, I'm in love :)

I like the ball clip.. simple and clean. There is a nostalgic appeal of the shaped clip, but if it comes down to it, I'll take simple and clean.

I meant to comment on this earlier but the clip question seems like a good place to chip in my two cents after the fact. Of the two I like the ball clip, but without the black stone I think I would prefer the original clip.

I'm sure this has been said in many other threads that I have not read, but what I love the most about your posts are the drawings you show us. Your hand made drawings are better than many CAD drawings I see at work.

Love the ball clip!

For me the cap top and barrel end look too bulbous. However the material selection and craftsmanship look superb!

Cheers and happy new year

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
