Pilot Capless Ls

Pilot initially test-marketed the Decimo with two colors, the sparkly red one that you have, and a sparkly blue.

They also tested a limited edition of the "Sesenta", which is the same pen model as the Decimo, but with a marbled color pattern in red, green, or brown, similar to the marbled capless pen.

After the test market, they released the Decimo in the nine colors that are currently available today.

Nine? I've only ever seen eight (not counting those LE models from a couple of pen shows in Japan last spring -- and up until last year, only four of those were even available in the US (I think it's now up to six, but I ALSO think only because I complained directly to Pilot USA).

I really don't understand Pilot's marketing department's rationale. They don't even try to sell some of the colors over here. They've got it into their heads that only women would want the smaller pens, and that we only want the "girly" colors. But they have all sorts of really cool colors for the full size Vanishing Points -- which are just too big and heavy for my hand.

One ponders the thinking at Pilot/Namiki if they tested using such intriguing finishes, and then went into full production with blah brushed metal finishes...

Sorry, I forgot that the "Harvest Yellow" gold color was discontinued:

Maybe just as well. That doesn't look like a particularly attractive color. Although if someone was the type of person to color match pen color to ink color, that might be the perfect pen for Noodler's Harold's Hearse....

I would like to see more non-metallic color options for the Decimo. I'm fairly happy with my bold yellow (not the mustard yellow) Vanishing Point, but it's quite possible I'd prefer section diameter of the Decimo. My grip is not quite proper with the VP, because of the thickness and the clip being in the way of how I normally would hold a pen.

From a friend with a contact at Pilot USA I heard that they won't be bringing the LS here until Q4 2020 or Q1 2021! That's a long time to wait. MSRP will likely be $400 or a bit higher.

More like Pilot Iroshizuku ina-ho, I'd say.

Actually, I vaguely recall that colour was also on offer for the steeply discounted price of A$90 in the clearance tray in Peter's of Kensington, which is a quirky but sizeable department store in Sydney, that time my wife and I picked up a white and a champagne Pilot Capless Decimo for the same price each. Only two of the Pilot Capless pens in that tray had 18K gold F nibs, so we stopped at two, and the lady who was staffing the fine writing department allowed us to mix and match the pen bodies with the nib assemblies.

Now that we're actually looking at paring our collection of Pilot Capless pens down from a dozen different models, I doubt we'll be buying a Pilot Capless LS when it becomes available.

Does the video explain why two mechanisms are necessary (or advantageous), when one used to work just fine?

The LS is designed to eliminate the "click" noise of the normal clicky VP, while still being a clicker rather than a twister.

It's interesting the LS weighs more then the Fermo which feels heavier to me then the VP even though it's only 33g vs 30g and this the LS is 39g. I like the look of the LS but wonder how it's going to feel in the hand.

The click/twist is interesting but not sure how it's better then the VP or Fermo. If you don't want a loud click or worry about it being pushed on accident the Fermo is there. If you like click over twist the Decimo/VP is at hand. it's strange combing both, but I still might get one ;)

Cheapest price on the bay is USD 550 (plus postage).

Definitely gonna pass.

The image in my post above is a hyperlink to that URL. :)

I'd also already included the URL in the description of the image in the FPN Image Gallery, in case someone came across it just browsing the album, or clicked on the panel of thumbnails at the top of the page, instead of reading this thread.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
