Finally Bought A Mb149 - After Years Of Wanting.

Good evening Folks,

Well after dithering for numerous years (and buying other pens along the way), I finally bought a Montblanc 149 with a BB Nib.

This is a one owner pen dating from 2006 (and includes all the boxes, paperwork & receipt from a German MB boutique).

Very pleasant to write with, I used the trusty Pelikan 4001 to start, now I just need pick an ink to go with it.

Excellent!! Welcome to the 149 World!!!!

When's the next one coming?

I would have preferred the Rose Gold version - however they are difficult to find used (I'm not paying full RRP).

I have had an expensive week, bought this, new Pelikan M800 Blue/Black Stripe & another new Lamy 2000 (Black) in Medium.

Welcome to the 149 club. Great pens for everyday use. Had one with me at a conference all day today that is about 50 years old and still going strong!

Not my first MB; just my first 149......it has been since 1999 I wanted one (20 years! where has the time gone?)

I previously had a Boheme Noir with retractable nib & Marc Newson Gloss, both of which I have sold.

Congratulations on your new 149! Great choice. Hope you enjoy it for many years to come. Welcome to the ever-growing crowd which realizes that, despite the 149's association with a certain lifestyle & status, it also happens to be a totally functional & reliable daily writer. There's nothing quite like it! Happy for you & your hand.

Congrats on a beautiful pen! The intact presentation box is a plus. What does the script look like?

Just re-cleaned and filled with Diamine Monboddos Hat on Rhodia - which I'm using in a few of my pens atm.

The handwriting sample image is terrific!

The 149 BB nib writes beautifully for you.

Thank you for posting the photo.

The Diamine Monboddos Hat ink is unfamiliar to me.

Your writing sample made my morning. Thank you.

Thank you, I really don't find my own writing particularly neat.

I would really like to learn Copperplate, I don't think I have the patience.

Welcome to the 149 Club.

None of us knows how long he shall live or when his time will come. But soon all that will be left of our brief lives is the pride our children feel when they speak our names.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
