Vancouver Pen Club--NOVEMBER 2019 meeting info:

Date: THURSDAY NOVEMBER 21, 2019

(Please note this meeting falls on a Thursday...not a Friday)


Time: 6:00pm to 9:00pm (don't worry if you're late as we usually start at around 6:30 pm :) )

Place: A meeting room in a smaller building located next to Vancouver City Hall, 453 W. 12th, Vancouver, BC (on the corner of W. 12th and Cambie).

Location info: The meeting room we will be using is called the Strathcona Room and it is located in a smaller building next to City Hall. Further information about the location is in the group email sent out to VPC members. If you wish to attend, but are not a member yet, please contact us at vancouverpenclub@gmail.com for more info.

Parking: There is free parking along Cambie Street after 6:00pm, or in the underground parking at the VanCity Building at 10th & Yukon when VanCity is closed. Parking along Yukon Street is $2.00 per hour.

 

Topic/Theme: OPEN FORMAT (ie. bring anything pen-related you want to show us---pens, inks, paper, accessories, books, etc).

Our secondary topic is always Newest Acquisitions, so if you have any new pens, ink or pen-related accessories (e.g. pen cases), please bring them with you to show.

No need to RSVP for any regular meeting not held at a restaurant!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
