I have always loved fountain pens, but had not used them for a very long time. I found an old dried up Lamy Safari in a drawer and was able to rescue it. What got me back into fountain pens was the incredible colors that are now available. My first new fountain pen was a Twsbi Eco and I fell in love with it. I love seeing the ink sloshing back and forth. Then I discovered the Goulet pens website and all the videos, which influenced me. Now I have eyedropper pens, made from Platinum Preppys. I have the Ahab and Neponset, which are challenging. I like learning the Japanese words on the Iroshizuku inks. I see what they mean when they say this hobby is a rabbit hole. Then finding this incredible website with all the fountain pen lovers from all over the world, well, this is amazing to me. Thanks to everyone.

My return to fountain pens was similar to yours, therefore I smiled reading your post.

In your lovely city there must be a wealth of resources for those who love to write with pen and ink.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
