Want A Vac Filling Replacement For My Twsbi Vac Mini

Title says it all. Id given it several months thought, and having had to pay to replace three parts on my TWSBI Im giving up. Will probably pay to replace the gasket and then sell it.

The thing that made that pen most useful to me in addition to the vac mechanism was the air shut off valve on the pen. It made it a safe airline travel pen. Could someone recommend an equivalent pen, possibly of Better build quality?

I know the penbbs 456 is a vac filling pen. Does it have the same air shutoff? Is that unique to twsbi? How is their build quality? Any other options?

I have an Opus 88 demonstrator on its way. It's an Eye dropper filler, not a BSc, but has an with shutoff valve. Generally gets good reviews.

Yes the Pen BBS 456 has an ink shut off and so does the very nice Wing Sung 699.

Ooh! I had not thought of the Wing Sung 699. Looking now.

A seconder for the 699. I just a few minutes ago ordered my fourth, when I discovered mention of a new blue one in the new postings here. It will join the brown and transparent ones I have and use daily, plus the grey/smoke one that's already in the post.

Cheers,

Effrafax.

Looked up the 699. Good call, I'm now looking at comparisons between the 699 and the PenBBS 456. One big things in favor of the 699 is the nib will go down to Medium. The PenBBS seems to only be offered in a F or XF.

You can get nib charms with the Penbbs medium round nib for $5.00. It is a nib/feed assembly that screws into the 456 very easily. Also, the PenBBS fine nib (like a mini fude) writes more like a fine-medium nib. I love my 456 clear demonstrator. I'm going to get another.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
