  • 2 weeks later...

now I'm curious...

The first one is an Ercolessi, the second one?

Same celluloid as my Corsani Fantasia verde variegato?

I don't own it, but I'd love to: Montegrappa 1930 Extra Bamboo Black:

Out of my pens, I love Pelikan M101N Brown Tortoiseshell, which is mostly a green pen with brown accents:

It's a Goldfink by Tom Westerich. It is the same celluloid as the Delta Corsani verde variegate / Montegrappa Extra 1930 marbled green. I was looking for a pen with this celluloid and by chance I found that he made a small series of oversize cigar-shaped pens with this celluloid. It's about the same girth and a tiny bit shorter than an MB149. He calls it black and pearl but it's really the same. I am still thinking about getting the Corsani series. That is a beautiful celluloid series.

That's a beautiful lush green! Is it the same celluloid as the Montegrappa Malachite green? Seems very similar but perhaps the veins are more golden than the silverish golden on Malachite, or maybe it's just the light... stunning.

Visconti Michelangelo from mid-late 90s, Green celluloid with bronze/gold shimmer veins, Fine 18k nib.

When it was made, it was advertised as a Visconti exclusive celluloid, although it seems to me I saw a photo of another contemporaneous pen with very similar bronze/gold veining, and I think it was in a Kaweco. I’m not sure about Montegrappa malachite. I wish I had a camera lens that would allow a closeup of the “bronze” veins: under a loupe they are full of bright gold flecks.

If they said it was Visconti exclusive, then I would take their word for it, as there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. The Kaweco gold/bronze veins pen was also made by Visconti, so it's not contradictory. I had another look of the Montegrappa Malachite under loupe. It's different: the veins are mostly silverish.

Right! Freddy has one right here at post #46 (second from the right). :) Perhaps the fanciest Kaweco Sport?

I had more green pens than I thought.

The Visconti Irises is one of my favorites because it looks like an oil painting. But I like them all because I did choose them. The TWSBI Diamond 580 is another I really like. I forgot to get the Lamy Safari Mint Glaze in the photo. It is rather pale.

Hey, I have some of those! One I haven't seen posted yet is one I've been eyeing: the Benu Supreme in Green but I think it might be too large for me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
