Help With Montblanc Solitaire Ink Flow

I've got this beauty for about 2 months and asked for an EF nib when I bought it.

When the pen was back I went to the store and tried it. While it wrote quite good I realized it skept or, better said, went dry when writing upwards. That is, for instance, when writing an F the old style. It was not performing as other fine nibs I have (all of them Japanese, to be honest).

Anyway, this was at the boutique in Ginza (I still live in Tokyo). I was told the gap between tines could be broadened but of course so would be the writing thickness. Since the pen performed good while writing within my style, I left it that way.

Moreover, switching to Iroshizuku improved even more the experience, and it is now quite a joy to write with. Except, well, it keeps drying up when writing upwards (which I don't normally do, but still).

It struck me today when trying a Platinum EEF. It just wrote perfectly, no matter if up or down.

Here is a sample of what I'm writing about.

I'm afraid the close-up of the nib I intended to do is not that close but what I wanted to show is you cannot see a gap between the tines. I guess this is the problem, according to this post (https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/187706-five-bad-things-that-happen-with-new-pens/).

But since normal writing is good now, I'm scared broadening the tines would allow the pen to write 100% fine but would thicken my calligraphy.

What do you think about it?

My other MB's are M or F, and I obviously expect such expensive pens to perform perfectly, but perhaps that's how it is for EF at Montblanc?

Thanks for reading

It happens. Try to hold the nib straight upward/downward and write this way with a bit of pressure (a BIT of pressure), several pages. See then.

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

Thanks for the answer

Ive been tracing lines top to bottom and bottom to top.

When doing the former the nib dried up if using my default writing angle.

If I reduce this angle between nib and paper, the ink flows.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
