Montblanc L139 And Montblanc L136, Which Is More Preferable

I have been eyeing 2 vintage Montblanc pens, but can only buy one. I know the L139 is more expensive and the L136 was made a couple of years earlier.

I would appreciate hearing your views in terms of which one of them is more preferable in terms of collection. Both are rare and hard to find. Pricewise, the L139 is about US$1,000 more expensive. I would be prepared to pay the higher $ if the consensus here is for the L139.

I would think a 139 is more like $2k more expensive.

What do you value in a pen? The 139 had more cachet in the collector world, but is that what matters most to you?

I have 2 136s and they are both wonderful writers, that said I would dearly love a 139, but doubt I will find one when I can afford it😢

It was rather difficult to find a picture which these two pens side by side, but here's one:

They're both cool! The L136 is slighter than the L139, so if you prefer thinner pens, then the L136 is for you.

If money is not a consideration then 139 for sure. Its a legendary pen, has the distinct silver rings, and its not too large for comfort (I dont like the modern 149 as its too big).

All the best!

Economical, historical and technical the 139, without any doubt. But it's like mariage one belongs with the other. They are a couple, men's and woman's pen... You can buy it with money but must buy by heart ! If you buy... don't consider it a spend... but an investment, goodluck make tour research and enjoy !

Thank you everyone for your help. Much appreciate it. I have decided to go for a L139G and

have found 2 near mint ones available. One has a

KM nib and one has a fine nib. The one that has KM nib is $800 more expensive. I have not used a

KM nib at all and have no knowledge of.its value.

Is it worth $800 more on a L139G? I am buying

this pen for writing together with my other Montblanc pens including a Montblanc 144 with OBB nib and a Montblanc 126 PL.with a flex nib.

I am keeping these pens for collection and hopefully value appreciation as time goes by.

I have a few K nibs and to be honest while they are rarer I must admit that they are quite boring to write with - no character, too perfect (if that makes sense).

Are you sure the 800 more is just for the KM and not the overall condition? I would definitely not spend 800 more for that nib.

+1

I will say that the KM should have more tipping material so if you were bold enough to get the nib ground that would be a plus.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
