You need to clean ink splash dots off your computer monitor.

Several times, recently.......

...when your desk pen tray is woefully inadequate and you temporarily use a molded, flocked plastic pen drawer insert with 18 slots, and it's actually about right for the job...

“I admit it, I'm surprised that fountain pens are a hobby. ... it's a bit like stumbling into a fork convention - when you've used a fork all your life.”

When you have a ten-pen case pen display that is overflowing because that is where you put the new pens that you still have to use and haven't gotten around to yet...

Using right now:

Visconti Voyager 30 "M" nib running Birmingham Streetcar

Jinhao 9019 "EF" nib running Birmingham Railroad Spike

Stipula Adagio "F" nib running Birmingham Violet Sea Snail

Pelikan M1000 "F" nib running Birmingham Sugar Kelp

You have your pens delivered to your office...because you haven't figured out how to tell the spouse you bought another one... I'll think of something though. ;)

When you buy a storage unit to consolidate the stash and haven't yet put it together, but then buy ANOTHER storage unit.

Also, when you have six year old ink samples you've never tried, but still keep buying inks....

And when you have inked up more pens than you can functionally use and then ink up ANOTHER ONE....

Yes. Guilty as charged on all counts, your honor....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

What size storage unit? 5x5x8, or 10x10x10 :)

You have more pens than bottles of ink... :P

When I had one fountain pen, I had fewer pens than bottles of ink, having had two bottles. Of the same ink.

When I leapt from one to three fountain pens, I had more pens than bottles of ink, though not an immoderate number of pens. I can still count bottles of ink on the fingers of one hand, but the number of pens is something I think I'd prefer not to discuss with my family.

...you don't bother to paint over the ink spatters on the wall, cos... inevitibality. (You push the bookcase against that part of the wall. Now your dining table is covered in ink spatters. So you call it the work table.)

you open a kitchen drawer and there's a fountain pen in it

Wait.. I keep buying those drawer lots on E-Bay. So, do _I_ have too many, or did they?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
