Well, it is an activity that cost several thousands per year to perform a task for which you are provided all the necessary supplies at work for free.

This is a strong indicator that some inner part of the brain is busted :lticaptd:

I went to the doctor and guess what he told me?

Guess what he told me?
He said dude you better try to have fun
No matter what pen u choose,

but he's a fool
'Cause no roller-pen compares
No roller-pen compares

to serenity blueeeeee

I know there are many pedantic and extremely smart people in this business, and definitely they will notice i compared an ink to a pen, and they will make sure that I know that this is not valid comparison in the spread-sheet of so and so.

I like to apologize beforehand and so on and so forth, and beg for their forgiveness and such

You be the judge:

Me: Look at this lovely free bottle of ink I just received.

Family: How did you get that for free? That's a good ink.

Me: Ink drop loyalty points.

Family: How do you get loyalty points?

Me: One point for each $10 spent, unless it's double drops day.

Family: That's a $250 bottle of ink!!!

I do. I was being good and waiting to get a white TWSBI Eco, but find out Nemosine had put Singularity pens back on their website at deep discount, and Bam! I buy 5. I already had 3.

But I use them all, eventually. So perhaps I am a consumer who gets good deals?

And those emails. Goldspot has a Kaweco exclusive that looks amazing. Sigh.

My husband of 18 years is my enabler whenever I try to give myself an intervention. The last time I talked myself out of buying a few KWZ inks, he was upset with me until I relented and treated myself. This is obviously great for our marriage but terrible for my self-control.

:) I am an enabler.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I warn new people here on a regular basis that we are all enablers. Doesn't seem to have done any good.

I just got some nib work done a couple of weeks ago on the Forest Green 51 Aero I scored last year at an estate sale -- now it's writing much better. Am I satisfied with having another well writing 51? No....

Because now I've been eyeballing the email flyers from various retailers and the photos in the ads for that new TWSBI Eco in purple....

I don't need no stinkin' intervention! I can stop anytime I want.

So I have 50+ Nakayas. I don't need no stinkin' intervention. Every time I start to regain my sanity, a pusher intervenes and sells me another.

So I have 25+ Pelikan 800's. I don't need no stinkin' intervention. Every time I start to regain my sanity, a pusher intervenes and sells me another.

Shall I go on? Or have I convinced you that I already have all the interventions that I can afford?

I self-intervened once I understood that I didn't want to chase forever. I had what I wanted, and the point for me was writing (and occasionally attempting to draw) with a few exquisite pens with perfect nibs, not just having more and more.

Some folks like to /own/ (hello, big brother!)*; I like to /go/...hahaha, so the more I have, the more weighed down I feel, and the more weighed down, the more discomfort I feel. I'm not fighting it.

*Shout out to actual sibling whose collection of collections (gear for multiple hobbies) more than compensates for my opposite way of being.

Parenthetical. I read that siblings often have opposite ("opposite") strengths and weaknesses which make the family stronger as a unit. That makes sense to me.

A similar self intervention for me as well. I really never had the desire for a ton of pens, I stopped at about 25, and only use five or so regularly, it's about the writing for me, fountain pens are tools foremost, and I am getting what I need out of the ones I have, there is no deep desire to seek more.

With inks, at around 65, I went a bit further, but also in a way that allowed me to have every basic color that exists, with a few different variations of these colors mixed in. I really don't go after inks anymore unless they are otherwise unique to the colors I already have, or simply just unique to the wider world of inks, which isn't as common as you would think even with the abundance of inks available these days....I never sought out the most perfect ink of any color, or the one that has the greatest ability to sheen, shade, or sparkle, it can kinda take you away from writing in the first place, and I don't need more distractions from that than I already have.....

Paper and notebooks are a different issue, I have a ton of each. But, I have yet to buy anything this year so far, so there maybe hope. It's easier when you can pick a dozen different types of each at any moment to use!!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

To paraphrase W.C. Fields; "Giving up collecting pens and inks is easy. I've done it a thousand times."

I started a self-intervention when I realized the queue for "old friend" pens waiting to get back into the rotation was getting way too long and constantly getting longer as I repaired new (to me) vintage pens I wanted to use and so had to postpone getting back to the friends again.

I am probably on the road to a similar self-intervention. I am currently at 20 pens (with 2 more incoming) and I am beginning to feel seriously "weighed down" (as Ethernautrix so succinctly puts it). I am imposing a No Buy for the rest of the year and beginning the loooooong process of figuring out which pens work well for me and why, and how I can go about getting the most out of 25-30 pens or so. I probably won't stop buying altogether, but I suspect I will become even more choosy than I already am, with far fewer impulse purchases.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
