Hello From Athens, Greece

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Been to this hobby around a decade and half, a time in which I managed to build a nice little collection of fountain pens and roller balls.

Been a member since 2010 actually but took long time off the boards since work travel needs (yard/field related) practically kept me from using a fountain pen consistently.

Therefore I believe I have to re-introduce myself, having been recently repatriated back to Europe (after 8 years in Asia).

Looking forward to the great content this forum continues to have......

My handle "N_Architect" stands for Naval Architect...

welcome back!

one of my most amazing pen related experiences was visiting Mr Evangelidis pen shop downtown in Athens!

There were rumors saying he would close the shop already in 2015 but when I visited in 2017 the shop was there, he was still there and the quantity of pens on show were overwhelming.

The following year a Greek friend of mine brought me a present from Mr. Evangelidis shop!

Not sure whether he's still there now, but since my last visit I often long to go back.

welcome back to FPN and to Athens!

Thank you all.

Mr. Evangelidis still has the shop, from a few conversations I've had with him I understand he possesses stock that is worth around a million USD.

I also understand that up until a couple of years back he was still buying in bulk NOS stock (OMAS)....

Point is that he has too much stock and he wants to sell the store, but who is going to fork out a million and half that he is asking?

Anyway, I'm off to see where is the section that I can post photos of the small collection I have.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

That is not hard to believe.

I bought a Jade Duofold Centennial from him, which I believe is not a very frequently found Centennial, and besides the one he had in the pen show case, he opened a drawer where he had 3 more! and obviously quite a lot of other rare ones...

I'd love to visit again!

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
