My Journey Has Begun

My journey has begun. After being into fountain pens for roughly a year, I have finally bought my first Montblanc pen. I decided to go with something different then an all resin model like a 144 or 146 to begin with and instead went with the MB Classique Doue Stainless model. This just arrived and came with a M nib that I filled it with my fav MB ink (Lavender Purple) and wrote some notes etc on Tomoe River 68g paper. I instantly like the weight of the pen, not to heavy but not to light. The nib is very smooth with just a touch of feedback. Perfect. Im very happy I went with this model as I love it in person more then I thought I would, having only seen the Geometry version in person, so when I opened the box on this one it was a first time seeing. I have a feeling that my next MB wont take long, actually already have Appelboom holding a 2019 Starwalker for me that Ill get once back from vacation

Thanks for reading my story

Congratulations, indeed! Lavender ink — that makes a bold statement! Enjoy the new pen!!

Thank you. The Lavender might be my fav ink I’ve ever used. It’s very dark but you can see purple in the ink for sure. It’s wonderful

City74,

Is the pen you have been waiting for?

I finally heard back from them asking for an ETA...

I can PM you and tell you what happened.

Regards,

David

Yes it is. It took 3 months but I’m happy. I will say that I doubt I use them again unless I make sure the item is in stock before ordering and then I would only order during the sales

Congrats on finally getting it.

Lavender Purple is a nice ink...I use it sometimes in professional settings or MB Royal Blue.

My gateway was 145? BP, then LeGrand BP, then LeGrand RB, a Bespoke FP, now just 149's.

I'm still waiting for mine.

I hope this pen will give you many years of enjoyment.

Regards,

David

Congratulations! What a beautiful pen! Lavender Purple is one of my favorite inks. My first entry into Montblancs was years ago when I graduated from college. The pen was a simple cartridge converter - likely a 144. I unfortunately lost the pen. But years later I got another. I have also purchased and sold several Bohemes, and am now enjoying a 146 Unicef as one of my primary pens. But soon I will be on a hunt for something very special . . . at least for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update. After about 10 days of ownership I figured I would post my thoughts. I like the pen. A lot. It does many things very well, many many things. The nib is wonderful and the medium size writes closer to broad which is a plus. The quality is great. The weight is perfect. If I had to say 1 flaw I would have to say the grip section is a little small and so my middle finger kind of rubs the threaded are and it feels a touch sharp. It isn’t a huge issue and if I actually pay attention when I grip the pen I hold it a little lower and thus doesn’t happen. Would I buy the pen again? Yes. A very big yes.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
