Mis-Stamped Parker 45 Date Code?

Just found this odd date code on an English Parker 45, does anyone know what it means?

Cap is CT and has a dimpled screw, so it dates between late '70s and 1989.

If the rest of the pen matches the cap, well, it has brass barrel threads instead of an inner barrel, and no end cap, so dates between 1979 - 1989.

UK made with a date code, so 1980-1989.

My guess is this is a 1983 P45, the year code of which was L with the disintegrating E. Perhaps this is a 1983 LI (quarter 4), and the 'I' was stamped twice?

Does anyone have any ideas / has anyone seen something like this before? And is a misprint like this (if I am correct) of any particular interest to collectors? I have enough P45s for myself and was planning on selling this one (came with a mixture of pens I bought, others of which I wanted).

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply - but I've never seen a U made with straight edges like that before. I'm reading that code as "LII", with the I mistakenly stamped twice. I've seen 1981 Parker Flighter 45 caps with the UI code before with a rounded 'U', but not like this, so I'm doubtful.

Have you known Parker to stamp a 'U' like that before? I've got a lot to learn and perhaps I just haven't seen it before.

I think that is a square-cornered U... I have a similarly marked flighter, and theres no gaps or anything that would make me think its a mis-stamp.

That's wonderful to know. I'll be on the lookout for more like this now. I wonder why they had two different U stamps. Thanks both, greatly appreciated!

Does it look like one of these?

2003 – L.III L.II L.I L

L dot II would be quarter 2 2003

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
