Tomoe River 68G Notebooks

Recommended Posts

It seems that the maker of Tomoe River paper realized that it is a business chance to have 68g paper notebooks.

Since June, it is an official product, 368 pages, 2916 Yen incl. tax.

KingdomNote sells it online (on their HP, on Amazon, Yahoo and Rakuten).

For searching either use the JAN code of this product 4909171665154 or the product code TMR-A5NM68W

FPN member fudefan alerted me that he has seen a notice on IG. Thanks.

I am talking of course about Amazon Japan where KingdomNote is selling.

Sent a request to Amazon or your favorite shop to resell this product. Eventually, they don't know yet that it exists.

Interesting to note the Stalogy notebooks, in the scroll bar immediately beneath the main offering, as an alternative.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Goulet? They don't. They sell a small notebook with 64 pages. At least, I only saw the 64 pages notebooks and the Endless Recorder notebooks.

The Sakae notebook has 368 pages.

If I am wrong, please provide a link.

Looked it up, put it in the basket and proceeded to checkout. Including shipping (+50%) and import duties (+25%), the price ends up at 42 euros. While still the best deal I’ve yet seen for 368 pages of Tomoe, it is more than I am willing to pay.

The Taroko Design Enigma is a substantially similar product (384pp 68 gsm Tomoe River A5) at $30, or $22 for "B-grade" notebooks with minor flaws. See

I have one each of the Taroko Enigma and Breeze and am pleased with them, though only using the Breeze so far (192pp).

Thanks for pointing this out. The Sakae 52gsm notebook has been on U.S. Amazon for a while, maybe this will show up soon.

I have a vague recollection that I once found a link to the Sakae notebooks from the Tomoegawa web site, but I'm having trouble locating it again. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, or maybe their web site is just tedious to navigate for non Japanese readers. Not to mention that they aren't consumer oriented.

Taroko Enigma 68gsm notebooks are excellent. AFAIK, Taroko were the first to offer 68gsm Tomoe River paper. They also sell the Mystique with their own Orchid paper, which I found very FP friendly. It's not Tomoe, but it's half the price of the Enigma.

In my case, shipping fees from the TarokoShop would be 40-50% of the selling price. No problem for me, I buy one at KingdomNote.

I have two of these. Flaws are indeed minor, and cover related.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
