Benpiggy, no, a no. 6 nib is too large. This is an unusual size 5.5 nib. A spare medium Kaigelu 316 nib fits. Available on eBay.

Can someone tell which would be a better fit for the 699....the Jinhao 18 KGP Medium or the Kaigelu 316 Medium?..I'm not a fan of the original nib at all. Pics and how to go about replacing would be ideal...is it friction-fit / screw-in unit?

Thank you. The Jowo does not fit.

I received mine yesterday only to discover that the barrel was cracked. A quick note to the vendor (the big A) and a replacement is already headed my way.

Boo, but, yay! A spare nib to play with! :)

The replacement pen has arrived and I like it. The F nib is smooth and it seems to write with just the right amount of wetness. I'm using Hero 232 with it. It is a nice grayish blue and it is flowing well from the nib. The pen doesn't quite understand the way I write just yet, but I'm sure that it will adjust...or I will learn how to use it.

  • 5 months later...

Dear Folks,
I bought mine Wing Sung 699 Vacuum filler from aliexpress at the beginning of 2020 for reviewing in my blog. But in two months of sleep in its box developped a massive big crack in the grip section. Depending my research, I found a amazon customer reported same issue. Crack repairing is very difficult. Seller doesn't want to accept responsibility. Any kind of repair or contacting help with Wing Sung are welcome.

That's not acceptable. I wish you every success in obtaining either a refund or replacement.

I'd Google them and approach with kindness.

Good luck. :)

aliikizkaya, I had the same issue, but the crack developed in the barrel. It was not fixable. I really liked my 699, but I don't think I would purchase another because of that issue.

Is that a Knox nib I see in the photograph? If you changed nibs the new one might've been too tight and caused the crack.

From the picture, it's definitely not the original Wing Sung nib (though vendors sometimes swap other nibs in too...). Changing nibs would almost certainly void your warranty though.

My 699 is still going strong after several months - but the plastic doesn't feel particularly robust. I *did* have to adjust the nib too, on arrival - it was a fairly dry writer out of the box (or plastic sleeve!). That's not an uncommon experience for me, though, with pens purchased on eBay (I haven't been game to try Aliexpress).

for the price I am ok with the quality of the material, its not the most robust but its not flimsy either and at the price asked its not unwarranted , though the nib can really catch people off guard, by specification it use the older type 28 sizing which is definitely not a no.6 nib as most would had today - my couple of 699 both write decently wet NIB and still do write decently wet after a cleaning and rinsing and still write the same now after 3 fillings

I agree - it's good value for money. And after a little adjusting it writes with a nice wet (but not TOO wet) line.

I wonder if they had different versions of the WS 699? As the comments have mentioned, it didn't look like it was a challenge to fit the nib right in?

Well, it isn't, and it is. I had to modify a spare ebonite feed to accommodate the larger #6 nib into a section designed for Wing Sung's proprietary nib and feed. It's a slow, careful, gradual process with a bit of gentle testing. It worked, and it worked well with a plain old F nib, but a #6 is a bit wider and flatter than what is supposed to fit in that hole.

Could I have a question about this pen size. Is it as massive and heavy as penbbs 456? Especially in the grip section of the pen. U had, not long ago, bought Penbbs 456 and honestly it is way too thick for me to write comfortably. With regards Milan

If you win over your own stupidity then are you winner or loser? In any case it means something good.

I don't have a PenBBS 456, but can tell you that the 699 weighs about 30g, and has a grip section diameter of around 11mm. So, not a massive pen by any means - though not tiny either!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
