Places To Visit On My Trip?

MikeGB

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Heading to Japan and Korea next October for a month and I am looking to acquire a pen or two.

To purchase something or not, any recommendations on shops or places to visit fountain pen related?

Thanks!

I just returned from three weeks in Japan and spent most of my time in and around Osaka.

Morita's pen shop in the Umeda area is small, but well known. There was an earlier post on his shop that gave exact directions. Its a small shop, and he is very helpful. I picked up a Pilot Grance from him. There is another shop that is the second floor of the Marana bulding. They have a nice collection of pens and inks. Marana is across the street. from Umeda/Hankyu which is the big transportation hub and shopping area. I'll try to dig up the earlier post and post it here.

Website: http://morita.ne.jp/

E-mail: pen@morita.ne.jp

Directions: The Morita Fountain Pen Shop (モリタ万年筆店) is located in the Chūō-ku ward (中央区) of Osaka (大阪) just out of Kitahama Station (北浜駅). Come out of exit 6 and turn left. Walk to the first corner and take another left and you will see the shop on the left side of the road. It’s really easy to get to, but I took some photos just in case. Kitahama Station is located on the Osaka Municipal Subway lines, not the JR lines. If you are coming from Osaka Station, you will have to make a transfer. If you prefer physical activity, you may consider walking as there are a few interesting things to see along the way.

Type "Store" or "Shop" in the search bar in this sub-forum

Where will you go in Japan?

What type of pens are you interested?

Which price frame?

You need to provide a "bit" more details if you want to get a sound advice.

We can recommend pens between $1 and $10000.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
