2 Pif Pens

Recommended Posts

I have two pens from my entirely-too-large collection to give away to anyone in the continental US. Sorry Alaska, Hawai'i, Canada and Mexico. Both pens have been tested with water and filled with ink for writing. I am the original owner of both pens. Here are the rules:

1. Anyone can put themselves in.

2. You can only ask for one pen.

3. I will be accepting requests from time of posting to 6PM PST Sunday Aug. 18. After that, I will tally up the total requests, assign numbers and then use a random number generator to pick the lucky winners. I will post it here and PM the winners for their address. If they do not respond in a timely manner (after a couple days), I will choose another person.

4. I will ship the pens out when I get an address from each winner. They will be sent out with a tracking number.

5. If no one claims a pen, I'll probably just give it away somewhere else.

6. Any questions about the pens, post them here and I will answer here so that anyone with similar questions can see my responses.

First is a Bexley Stalwart. I don't remember what they called this color but it's basically orange. It comes with both a Steel Broad and Medium nib which you can screw in and out. A converter is included. It has a ribbed design which I found to be unpleasant, but I am told some people like it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Second is a Conklin Word Gauge with a steel M nib. It has an orange ink window. There is some cosmetic damage on the nib but it is completely usable. Reliable and can hold lots of ink. I just prefer my Pelikans to this pen.

I got an e-mail notification today about this post. If the offer is still open -- and thanks for it -- I'd like to enter for the Conklin. I have no pens by them, and the Word Gauge looks interesting. Thanks!

Hi Bounce 792,

Is this post still open? Apparently there were delays with approval and the site has had some strangeness w/notifications, too.

If so, would love to be considered for the Conklin Word Gauge.

Thanks for offering this amazingly generous PIF!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
