I received my bottle of Scribble Purple today and I regret I am a little disappointed. The ink flows well, as one would expect from Diamine, and the price of the 80 ml bottle is a bargain.

Unfortunately, I find the ink much too dark for my taste: when written and dried on paper, the Scribble Purple is so dark it is really a black with a hint of purple. I have written with a TWSBI 1.1 stub and a Visconti 14C medium nib, but in both cases the result is so dark as to be a routine black and therefore (to me) of little interest.

I much prefer the Diamine Bilberry, which is a glorious ink.

Perhaps I just like dark purple inks that are more blue, but this new ink is a disappointment.

I'm sorry to hear that, dud bottle, perhaps? I am very fond of deep purples so this is a great ink, but I can appreciate your disappointment. Have you tried playing with diluting the ink with some distilled water?

Gorgeous sheen on a nice color.

But good god that is the laziest name ever.

I received my bottle today. I am extremely happy with the high degree of legibility in my very fine and dry Pilot 74ef and Platinum 3776 EF nibs. equally good results are obtained in my Sailor 14k F and Pilot 74F nibs. Flow is satisfying and I must repeat I love the deep purplish legible lines, especially from dry and very fine nibs.

If I wanted it to shade, and play with it abit, I would dilute it with water and broader nibs should do the trick. But for my everyday writing tasks, this is the ink.

I am also happy to note that my writing turns out legible when photocopied. Some other inks that shade alot may not, and I almost always have to adjust the settings on some photocopier machines because of that.

I would buy another bottle.

The gold sheen complements the deep purple really well. And then there's Monboddo's Hat. An imaginative name, and slightly lighter purple, both of which may be more satisfying.

That is fantastic! I really appreciate the dilution tip, I'm looking forward to my bottle of Monboddo's Hat to see how that compares. I'm with you, I absolutely love the deep purple and the gold sheen.

The gold sheen is lovely. Did you notice sheen with Monboddos Hat?

Badger,

The other person behind these two new Diamine purples is named Oddobnom!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
