Two New Diamine Inks?

encremental

Recommended Posts

Just looking at Cult Pens' sale for anything interesting, I came across two new (to me) Diamine Inks called Scribble Purple and Monboddo's Hat. I think one or both are specials for the reddit fountain pen group, but have not really heard of either of them on here. Any ideas?

.... As you were. Looking at the Diamine website it appears that these are two very similar purples which seem to have a very strong family resemblance to Lamy Dark Lilac, which may be of interest to fans of that elusive ink. And it's Facebook UK Fountain Pens, not the reddit fountain pen group !

Looks like they were made for the Fountain Pens UK Facebook group. At Diamine's website the samples show Scribble Purple to be rather dark, almost like Diamine Grape, while Monboddo's Hat is slightly lighter. They don't look too distinct from other Diamine purples offered, but nice looking nonetheless....

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

Three new Diamine inks, actually - I see that Pure Pens have got themselves a Diamine Exclusive called Alexandrite, which is a turquoise-y shimmer ink. The interesting thing is that this is available in a 30ml bottle. I do wish Diamine would do all their other shimmer inks in 30ml . At £3.00 or so, I would gradually buy them all. At £9.95 for 50ml, that's not going to happen.

I've ordered the two purples. I find the photos on the Diamine site are often nowhere near the colour they are supposed to be, so I await their arrival with interest.

Diamine is doing some great collaboration with fountain pen users in the development of new inks. They worked with the Fountain Pens UK Facebook to develop 2 new purple inks, and listened to votes from the group. Diamine listened to Reddit more than a year ago with development of the Earl Grey ink. Blackstone partnered with FPN contributors on development of the Susemai cashmere series, and Pelikan polls users annually on new colors. Exciting collaboration in the community.

There was a real belter sample knocking about - 101 - that started purple when wet but dried to almost black. A bit like the skin of an aubergine. I've still a bit left but nothing ever went into production, as far as I know.

Pity.

The Niche/Pure Pens Alexandrite ink comes in two varieties; shimmering & non-shimmering.

Gosh, so it does! I can only assume that the thought of new colours made me stop reading with full comprehension and I began to have an inky turn - that does sometimes happen. Well, that makes a lot more sense.

But my idea of smaller shimmer ink bottles is, I think, still a good one. Even at the appropriately higher price compared to the bigger bottle, I'm sure sales would double.

OH dear, I went to look at the ink and then I found the Inkvent calendar.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Arrgh! Coming in October.

Diamine is a devious, almost sinister, purveyor of inks.

As Goulet doesnt list them, if you want to know the individual colours they are itemised by Cult Pens (in their Coming Soon section).

The calendar piqued my interest for a millisecond, then I got to the bit that said some of the inks are shimmer inks. No thanks.

I'm struggling to find a review of the Pure Pens Alexandrite. They have photos of the ink on their website, but it's like they are photos of 3 different inks, such is the difference!

Also trying to find another review for Monboddo's Hat. There is the 'too many purples' one of course.

Have you guys managed to find more?

Thanks

I have both Alexandrite (non-shimmer/sparkles version) & Monboddo’s Hat. Happy to send you a sample of each. Drop me a Private Message if you’re interested.

Pity these two don't come in 30ml bottles as their last two Robert and Maureen do.

They do now. They're listed as Pip and Chris.

A very kind member sent me some samples of two new Diamine inks. I don't have the time or skill to do a full, photographed review, but can give my impressions of their colours. I had trouble finding a consistent representation of them so this may be of value to someone. I used Bock M nibs on pens with similar flow.

Alexandrite - I found this to be almost identical to J. Herbin's Bleu Austral. The Diamine ink had more shading though and leaned more towards a marine-green colour.

Monboddo's Hat - for me, this fell between Diamine Pansy and Lamy Dark Lilac.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
