New Kwz Ink Sheen Machine

KWZ announced new ink. It's called Sheen Machine:

Blue color, red-pink sheen and lesser probability of drying in the pen due to original formula. Can't wait to see it in person and give it a try :)

I like KWZ inks, but I already have Studio Organics Nitrogen and Diamine Julur Gemilang.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Yes the label looks nice. I'm not really interested in sheen. I hope they do well with it.

Oooh.....

I think I know someone who needs a bottle of this when it gets stateside (I mean *besides* me). I was talking to a friend of mine about pens and inks yesterday (she's a calligrapher and botanical artist) and was saying that while she's not wild about the color of J Herbin Emeralds of Chivor she's thinking about getting it to do calligraphy to sell at SF conventions. But she liked KWZI Walks Over Vistula when I let her try my Lamy LX. So something this sheeny might be right up her alley (It certainly is right up mine.... :puddle:

I’ll be totally honest, all of the hordes of blue super-sheeners look identical to me.

While I don't think they look identical, the pink/red/magenta/purple sheen on blue ink thing is getting really boring and passé. I don't understand the chemistry of inks, but why can't ink manufacturers/mixers produce more blue inks with green sheen, graphite sheen, silver sheen, gold sheen? I love Sailor Shikiori yonaga because it sheens green not pink/red/magenta/purple. How about a green-leaning teal or turquoise ink that richly sheens blue?

If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Anyone know how this compares to Skull and Roses? I haven't been able to get that ink, and was wondering if this would be an easier to get ink comparatively that is as good? I was turned off the Nitrogen ink based on people saying it was harder to clean. Since I'm new to fountain pens, I didn't want any ink troubles while I'm learning the pen/cleaning routine but I wanted a sheening ink at the same time.

I'll try to do a scan later, but I just ordered a couple of KWZ Inks from Fountainfeder, and the hand-written note I got from Steffi was written in KWZ Sheen Machine. For all intents and purposes that I can see, it's the same colour as Skull & Roses, maybe with a hair smidge more shading than the Diamine version. I can say nothing to the properties of the ink though, I only have a writing sample.

Quick photo. Note that the colours in the photo turn out bluer than what I see.

The base colour of Sheen Machine is noticeably greener than Skull & Roses. As for cleaning I don't know yet. I've only had it for a couple of days only.

Thanks for the info you guys. I saw skull and roses on Amazon but if this is as similar, I might get it instead. Guess I have to wait to see how it cleans out. Maybe in my next batch of inks to buy. I'm already collecting inks I don't need but are so pretty

Thanks for the swatches, LGSoltek. Does Sheen Machine smear when "dry" like Nitrogen does?

I've just checked on some stuff I wrote about 6 hours ago using a 1.1mm stub on Rhodia Dotpad and it did smear. Not as bad as Nitrogen but it smeared nonetheless...

THANK YOU all for sharing.

I really like it but the lubrication, flow and lack of nib dry out comes at a price. It can be a bit bleedy (but not feathery) and the ink has quite an incredible dry time

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
