Pelikans For Cheap On Amazon

Are these deals for real, or is it too good to be true? I can scrounge enough money for the $200 M605 and not feel bad. The M805 Stresemann is only $271 plus shipping. Why do I see the same models going for so much more on Ebay and Classifieds?

i just saw them too... make sure you read the reviews and all of the amazon qualifiers....

  • International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions.
  • Manufacturer warranty may not apply

Seems risky but possible.... I suppose as long as you are willing to accept the risks... none of them seem to have arrived in new packaging

they are legit. there is a separate thread about this in Marketwatch forum. Several of us have ordered (me included) and received our pens.

These are often legit. The pens come from abroad where there are different price structures. They also usually come without gift packaging which cuts down on cost. The caveat is that the warranty is usually not honored by Chartpak for those of us in the US.

This is great news! I want to buy an M600, but someone mentioned how some sellers are unreliable. I'll ask around Market Watch and find a reputable seller.

In your experience, have the nibs been okay, or did you need to adjust them? Pelikan nibs usually have a good reputation, but I always feel better knowing I'm getting a good nib.

They are real for some people. A person posted about getting a white tortoise earlier this year. I tried to buy it twice, and both times it returned to the seller. Then the price went up about a hundred dollars.

But the other person happily got his white tortoise.

That's very good news. I'll start saving for an M600. Maybe even jump for the M800 Stresemann.

Some of the reviews mention "factory seconds" with some variances in quality control.

I don't know the truth of that but even a few reviews like that are enough for me to choose to buy from a reputable domestic dealer. IE: NibSmith, etc. where I can be assured of return policy and nib tuning.

True, true... but even with a full nib smoothing by a pro, plus shipping, I still end up with a pen that costs significantly less, even less than a used example. If I really wanted to save money, I'd just buy the $271 M800 or the $200 M600, wait till next summer, and spend $30 having it tuned at the next pen show. I'd still spend less.

If the pen is sold by Amazon, you can buy it. But if it's a marketplace dealer be very careful, as there are many hacked seller accounts.

Two weeks ago I bought a M1000 EF (sold by Amazon) for 306 € :D

And last month I got a D600 pencil for 76 € (normally they are sold for 190-200 €).

Now I'm waiting to find a cheap M900. B)

So far I purchased a m600 and two m800.

Nibs are great. Only thing lacking was the fancy packaging which I typically discard anyway.

Couldn’t be happier!

Nyanzilla is right -- make sure that the listing is either directly through Amazon or at least fulfilled by Amazon. I had all sorts of problems last winter with a third party seller over a CD I had ordered -- got told that DHL didn't do package tracking (seriously?), and then it was left on my porch after I had stopped the mail over Thanksgiving -- I had asked both Amazon and the seller to leave the package inside my stormdoor, because I was worried about bad weather (and frankly, also a little bit about porch thieves). And then after all that blah blah blah about DHL? Came in the mail. AND the seller turned out to be an HOUR away from where I live (just in the next county).

I gave the review the seller deserved. And THEN got pinged by them -- offering a partial refund in return for me amending my review.... Oh, I amended it all right: I told Amazon and all the people reading reviews exactly what sort of scam they tried to pull on me. The joke was on the seller though -- I had partially paid for the CD with rewards points to begin with. So I ended up paying 68¢ for a $13.99 US CD... (snerk). Then I went online and found the company's FB page and was apparently lucky I got the CD at ALL given the posts from other disgruntled customers. Or should I say "EX-customers"....

And this was a seller in the US, here in Western PA. This is why there are only certain overseas sellers I deal with on eBay, too -- ones with 100% positive feedback and also ones where I've read good things about them on FPN.

The "factory seconds" statement is incorrect. Pelikan do not produce any factory seconds. There might be some that slip quality control or are damaged by handling en route later, but everything they put out the door is supposed to be made to the same standard.

We are amazed at these low prices because we are used to overpaying. If the pen is shipped and sold by Amazon, it's legit. I've seen M800's for 300 USD on Amazon before.

I bought several flawed M805 from different amazon european platforms. Usually in the 250 to 350 bracket. Too many flawed i returned. Unpolished tipping, starved ink feed. Discolored pyjama. For some it is too late: a twisted pyjama i identified much later.

Usually amazon.de is ok.

uk it es are not always.

I wish you all the best luck.

Now i buy only from certified internet shops.

FYI as much as I love Amazon (half my friends work there ;)), there are better deals out there! I just bought a M1000 for $372 (shipped) from the Pelikan UK (Niche Pens). I have bought from them before and they are a trustworthy dealer.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
