Gifted A Montblanc M Pics Inside

Jip

Recommended Posts

For my so’s 30th birthday I gave him a Westside wallet, 1 pen case, and Montblanc M.

He seems happy enough 😊

I recently bought a StarWalker fineliner set that came with the wallet. For the price of less than the wallet or pen. (Was on sale in Switzerland) I kept the StarWalker for myself, but gifted the wallet (bought it for that reason) and used the box set to fit the wallet and Montblanc M.

Thank you for the excellent photo series.

Happiness like that is infectious.

May he enjoy writing with the pen and using the wallet.

My own Montblanc wallet has seen heavy use, perhaps due for replacement next year.

Thanks for all the kind replies, a while later now and he’s enjoying his pen daily to write notes and correspondence. His Montblanc M writes quite dry, which he likes, but it leaves the Montblanc Mystery black a bit grey/pale.

It’s good for his moleskin notebooks though, since they are not very fountainpen ink friendly.

I wonder if it would need to be flushed a few times or something. I got him a Kaweco converter which fits perfectly (it’s the only one that’s thin enough to actually fit!)

Excellent. He looks delighted!

I like the M. If it's a F nib, they can be dry.

If you bought it new, he could take it into a boutique and they may be able to tweak it, there and then.

If you bought it used, yes, flush it thoroughly.

MB cartridges can write dry, in my experience.

You could refill the cartridge with a wetter ink. (I'd try eg. Pelikan Black - but everybody has their own favourites!)

Good luck

You did well on the gift; he looks very happy! The two most recent Montblancs I purchased were medium nibs and pretty dry writers straight out of the box even with the wettest Sailor inks and after extensive flushing. Dry nibs and I don't get along too well, so I took one back to the boutique since I was planning on having the nib swapped for a different size nib anyway and the other to a nibmeister. If your SO is like me and has dry nib anxiety, as CS388 recommended, I would take it back to the boutique if bought new or to a nibmeister for a little adjusting.

I bought the pen new, he actually likes the dry writing it never skips and writes very smooth, just a bit dry to my taste. It's me who is afraid of it! Ha-ha. I have a 2019 Starwalker with an almost identical feed/nib also in F and it writes more wet than his new Montblanc M.

Since he likes how it is I'll leave it as is, but will ask him again in a week. So we can visit the boutique if he want's it changed.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
