Feed Adjustments For More Flow On #2 Waterman Flex Nib Pens?

I have a pair of pens, one a 452 1/2V and a 552 1/2V pens with nice flex nibs. Both are very flexy and require very little pressure to spread the tines.

One pen is luciously wet (serious waiting for the paper to dry before touching), and I am happy with it. It will gladly flex and leave a 2mm line repeatedly with no railroading.

It can draw a 2mm line the full length of a page without ever missing a beat.

The other pen (which is equally flexy) has trouble getting enough ink and will "railroad" at anything over 1.5mm. How do I adjust the nib/feed/section relationship to get better flow and less railroading

on the pen that only does 1.5mm before it railroads?

Some here might say that 1.5 mm is pushing the nib past its limits, but maybe it wants a slightly wetter ink. I like my inks on the dry side, as I’m left-handed and smearing is an issue, but you might have a look ‘round the ink forum.

Okay, I will try the same ink the 2mm pen is using, Diamine Wild Strawberry. Or alternately, I will try Faber Castell Carbon Black, which is used in my other 2mm pen. The nib in the 1.5mm pen is the most noodley of all of my nibs, it just railroads at 1.5mm. It is very paintbrush like, but writes dryer. I have had amazing luck with 1920s number 2 New York nibs in some of my X52 1/2V pens. I really need to try a true wet noodle, so I have an actual point to compare against.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
