Just got this interesting little feller...it's marked "Wahl", so it's pre-merger. This probably also explains the engraving style.

Anyway, into the shop it will go.

Here's a picture:

What a lovely little ringtop!  Is it sterling silver?

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Definately Sterling.  I don't think they had a silverplate version of that pen in the year it was made.   It looks like it is made to the size of a Waterman 452 1/2V pen, the competition of that era.

I would wager that with that long tined number 2 nib, it can dish out some flex action as well.

Not sure what pre merger means as Wahl owned the pen and the pencil the whole time.  You may mean pre changing the way they used the name.  Wahl bought The Boston Fountain Pen Company in 1917.  During that Summer it looked like they would just retain the name Boston but, by the Fall changed it to Wahl Tempoint.  By 1921 they dropped the Tempoint to just Wahl.  Sometime later they went with Wahl Eversharp which  is just putting the name of the pencil with the pen.  Wahl started out with the Wahl adding machine that was an attachment that went on Remington typewriters.  They also made brakes for cars.  Wahl was into making a buck but, they also cared about quality which they maintained from Boston very unlike Conklin when it was bought from Toledo and moved to Chicago.

There was a time where only the nib had the company name Wahl, the Cap was simply marked with "sterling" and "Pat. July 5 1904 (or J904)".

I have seen examples of this in their Sterling lady's Ringtop and solid 14 Kt lady's Ringtop.

This has “Wahl Pen” on the cap and a somewhat worn Sterling mark.

Congrats. That's a cute pen. Hope it caps nicely, because it looks hard to hold for more than a few pages even with small hands.
