Very Cheap Fpf Notebooks

I've figured out that the Pen and Gear brand notebooks sold exclusively at Walmart are fountain pen friendly! They aren't quite up there with Tomoe or Rhodia or Clairefontaine in terms of quality, but I've basically never experienced feathering with this paper, with the ONLY exception being feathering along a single paper fiber, which hardly qualifies as feathering, and I've used this paper with dip pens and fountain pen ink (for calligraphy). I can only speak for the spiral notebooks with a colored plastic cover, but I've been using these notebooks for years and the quality remains the same and consistent. You wouldn't be able to tell by feel of the paper but it's actually pretty amazing with a variety of inks. And the PRICE! Last time I bought any it was about $1 a standard sized notebook. If you want proof, check out my Insta @pen.meets.ink! And it shows a pretty good amount of sheen, if you care about that too. Just wanted to let people know since it's easier to get your hands on these notebooks when back to school season starts, and it's GREAT if you're still in school

Interesting -- I did the same thing and it said made in USA.

I often check out the back to school sales for notebooks. I picked up some spiral bound college rule notebooks at staples that handle FP pretty well they were made in Brazil. I think they were only 50 cents a piece.

I've been delighted with Muji notebooks. They have attractive transparent stiff covers, the paper is smooth and absorbent, and they come in all sizes--lined, dotted, blank. I peeled off the stickers, but my recollection is that the paper is from Indonesia. No feathering with any ink I've tried. There's a bit more see-through with wet inks and medium nibs, compared to Rhodia. But I tend to stick to fine and extra-fine, with medium-wet inks like Noodler's Black, and then they're wonderful. Muji notebooks are so cheap that I don't feel inhibited about going through lots of paper.

I will check out the pen and gear notebooks. The Mintgreen dot grid notebooks sold at Walmart bleed and feather.

 

I have found that the Caliber spiral notebooks sold at CVS have fantastic FpF paper inside them. They are 8x10.5 and have one pocket for loose papers as well. My only complaint is that they are wide ruled.
