Dear All

Greetings!!

This is my first post on FPN. I am taking this opportunity to say hello to everyone and introduce myself.

Before joining FPN, I had written some emails to two online websites(jetpens.com and gouletpens.com)for a few queries I had. The teams from both these sights answered my queries to the best of their capacities. However they both encouraged me to join FPN. I thank them for this. Though I had read blogs on FPN a couple of times, this time I decided to be a part of this community.

I am from India 🇮🇳 but have been living and working in UAE 🇦🇪 since 2009. I am a physician by profession.

My love affair with 🖋 dates back to my school days. My first fountain pen was Wing Sung/Hero Chinese pens and then Parker Vector was my mainstay pen for years till the end of my schooling. During my training in medical college, Lamy Safari and Lamy Blue-Black ink were my staple tools for more than a decade. When my Lamy Safari had outlived its life and showed wear and tear everywhere, I ventured into the gold nib segment and decided to try different inks.

Sailor 1911L M nib is my first Gold nib. Oh what an experience to write with 1911L!! Over the years I have acquired a small collection which I am happy to share with all the fountain pen lovers in this community. My little collection includes:

1) Sailor 1911L M

2) Platinum 3776 M NICE limited ed

3) Platinum 3776 M Bourgagne

4) Pelikan M800 Renaissance Brown Limited ed F

5) MB Le Petit Prince Le Grande F

6) TWSBI 580AL F

7) Lamy Studio with 14K F nib(I actually replaced the steel nib with gold nib).

Thank you once again for making me a part of this forum.

Best regards

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
