Kwz Ink Red #1

Recommended Posts

Red #1 is a beautiful red ink that writes very wet and smooth. It’s a joy to write with. The colour is indistinguishable from Diamine Germany exclusive Communication Breakdown, except that the Diamine is slightly more saturated and have prominent gold sheen. If you want the sheen, go with the Diamine. If you enjoy a wet and smooth ink, pick KWZI Red #1 with an unbeatable writing experience.

It's the golden sheen that tells them apart.

Looks like Red #1 is a tad cooler than Diamine, even without sheen. I think I like the KWZ hue more. Thank you for the review!

Wow, that is a lovely color. Thank you for that review. Are the pictures fairly oxidized examples?

Looks really good and I think I will order some.

May I ask what paper you use for this nice ink splash at the beginning?

Thanks for the review. Great presentation!

This red looks great too... I haven't played around yet with the normal (non IG) KWZI inks, but might take a closer look at them.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for the great review as always.

Is this "Red #1" the same as their "Red" ?

Might just be a renaming and/or a new name for a new lot with subtle changes....

If you look at Visvamitra's photo of the bottle, it says [something Polish] #1.

Thanks! The photo of the bottle is the first thing I sought (and found). Saw the ' (European "1") but thought that the something Polish was a completely different word than that for "Red"). But who cares. Main thing is that I love it (the colour).

I’m not a fan of red inks, per se, but as reds go this isn’t to bad. I have MB corn poppy red which is all the red I need but this review made me want to try the KWZ Grapefruit. That looks great

Damn that's RED.

I've been really into noodlers cardinal kestrel right now. It's got none of the blue or orange undertones, it's just an EXTREMELY red ink.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
