Your Most Trusted Brand Of Ink
Posted 18 July 2019 - 12:01
That was nice of you Gobblecup.
I was trying to say something nice about a brand I enjoy and someone who receives a lot of angst in this forum.
I personally met Nathan at a Commonwealth Pen Show in 2016. He is dedicated to his work. He loves his work.
I really didn't expect pushback.... but, it's all good. We all have our opinions.
I certainly do not mean to be abrasive or anything, I respect that you enjoy and find excitement in Noodlers brand. I apologize if my response was upsetting or too directly contrary. I did have a period where I was a big user of Noodlers inks. I simply have moved on personally. Hence, I put forth my contrary view. But again, please do not take it as aggressive and hateful on my part.

My post before, while being facetious to a degree, was true. I don't _have_ any untrusted inks. Every ink I have (other than perhaps Baystate Purple, which I haven't opened as of yet) is an ink that I trust to do what I need. That is, work in my pens. Camel/Camlin, Skrip, Mont Blanc, Waterman, Pelikan, 5280/Thornton's (Slovenian, which is where Skrip is being made, I believe), Hero.
Maybe I'm a luddite, a bit, but while I enjoy having difficult colours and types of ink, I don't think the exact perfect shade is something about which I need to worry.

I couldn't have answered this question just a few weeks ago; however, in the meantime, I have discovered KWZ for myself, and am now looking to replace most of my favourite colours with close equivalents from this line. The flow and lubrication are exactly what I was looking for, and they tend to behave better on bad paper (not that I expect them to - there's Sailor Nano for that - but it's a nice bonus on top). The vanilla smell may not be my favourite (I despise the odour of vanilla), but at least it doesn't cause me any migraines, which is good enough.

My first thought was Sailor but then I thought of that ghastly terrible line of STORiA nano-pigmented inks that I blind bought when they were first released and at a very high price...
I'm gonna answer KWZI instead.

I have three of the eight originally released STORiA ink colours, and I don't think they actually misbehave as inks in any way.
As always: 1. Implicit in everything and every instance I write on FPN is the invitation for you to judge me as a peer in the community. I think it's only due respect to take each other's written word in online discussion seriously and apply critical judgment. 2. I do not presume to judge for you what is right, correct or valid. If I make a claim, or refute a statement in a thread, and link to references and other information in support, I beseech you to review and consider those, and judge for yourself. I may be wrong. My position or say-so carries no more weight than anyone else's here, and external parties can speak for themselves with what they have published. 3. I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable. If it is something you can test for yourself and see the results, I entreat you to do so.

I only have 4 inks, covering 4 brands, which I arrived at after much trial and error.
If I had to start again and pick one brand though, I would choose Montblanc.
Pens: Conid Kingsize Bulkfiller (2)
Inks: Diamine Raw Sienna - Diamine Burnt Sienna - GvFC India Red - KWZ Dark Brown - KWZ Ig Red #3
Iroshizuku Yama-Guri - Noodler's Saguaro Wine - MB Homage to Hadrian

I've come to love Pilot Iroshizuku

Macassar, deep brown, cooler than their Chocolate.
Registrars. Off-blacks are my quiet rebellion at work.

I've come to love Pilot IroshizukuI need to try some KWZ inks.
I heartily recommend them! They're extremely comfortable and reliable as far as writing properties go, and the colour selection ranges from interesting-but-work-appropriate to absolutely unique. The price is also very reasonable, I think, at 10€ for 60ml.

I have mostly Pilot Iroshizuku, J Herbin but also some Takeda Jimuki Kyo No Oto, Pelikan regular and Edelstein, Waterman, Sheaffer, Diamine, L'Artisan Pastellier, Stipula, Lamy... Using 29 of them, in total something like 35 to 40, I gave a few away. They all work fine, except for Rouge Hématite which gunks up everything, and one colour of L'Artisan Pastellier which seems to have some sort of mix up. So in general my inks seem to be a lot more reliable than my pens, I just took a look at my two Sonnets kept in a Lamy box... Dried out, again.

Diamine is the vast majority of my ink collection, but by far the best pure cobalt blue is Levenger Cobalt Blue. But Diamine Regency Blue is a reasonably acceptable substitute.
