I bought my first fountain pen on a whim a couple of years ago, a parker victory. Read a little history on them and got intrigued. So I bought a couple more vintage parker pens. I really liked them, the craftmanship behind them and the history around each models. The process of cleaning a dried up pen (and change inc sac on a few) was fun. I bought ink and tested every new pen I bought, but I never realy started to using them, writing with them. After the first try they lay in the drawer unused. So after a while I sold most of them, but kept a few, laying in the drawer. There they have been most of the time until recently. But after getting more and more frustrated with ballpoints, I inked up a fountain pen again a couple months ago and has been using and enjoying them more and more. Even bought a couple of new pens...

 

So here I am, been lurking here for a while and learning a lot, and when I got trouble with a parker 51 I decided to join.

 

My collection is so far these:

Parker 51 flighter (needs a new breather tube)

Parker Duofold

Parker Slimfold

Parker Victory

Parker Vacumatic (in need of restoration)

+ 3 not functional pens

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
