Thanks as usual for the exemplary review.

Can anyone provide a side by side between Petrol Blue and Leo Tolstoy LE from a couple of years ago?  I bought a bottle of it on a whim when I was in NYC at Fountain Pen Hospital and looked at FPH's swab book, and I rather like it (even though I don't normally care for the color range).

Question: would you describe this color as a blue black that shades teal, or a teal blue?

I’m trying to figure out if this is a good alternative to my work blue blacks, which alternate between Noodlers Aircorp Blue Black, Noodlers Legal Lapis, and Private Reserve Ebony Blue. All of those are blue blacks with shades of green or teal under the right light.

I’ve never been a Montblanc ink fan. But this one may have promise

I wouldn't call this a blue-black, it's too light for that. Teal blue is a better description. Noodler's Bad Blue Heron could be  a substitute for this one. A bit less teal, especially in swabs, but in writing they look very similar - and you will get more ink for your money.

~ namrehsnoom:

Thank you for posting this review of Montblanc Petrol Blue.

When I visited a local Montblanc boutique, there was one bottle of this ink.

First off.. amazing review! The first time I saw the color Ku-Jaku came to mind right away. I wonder if Mont Blanc just paid pilot for the color cus it looks like a dead ringer to me.

~ namrehsnoom:

Writing with Montblanc Petrol Blue has increased my appreciation of it's quality.

For weeks it's been used to write notes, sketch, and highlight key points in manuscripts.

It's well-behaved character has convinced me to add a second bottle.

Words do not do justice in thanking you for an unbelievably inspiring review, including that artwork which makes me jealous because I cannot do that!

Thank you a million times for all the work that went into your review.  IMHO, it is the best I have ever seen here, although some (Sandy-kins) come close.

now I’m headed over to buy two bottles.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Agree, great review! The color doesn't grab me so I guess I will pass too.

Wonderful review! Thank you so much Namrehsnoom

This is definitely more appealing to other recent MB inks, but still not special enough IMO. There are tons of similar colours out there already.

Thankfully I already have Eau de Nil (80ml bottle).

These are my thoughts exactly!

It's totally my kind of colour, but Eau de Nil seems to look very similar, is a great ink in itself, for a fraction of MB's prices

A little similar to Eau de Nil, but not a match by any means.

@InkstainedRuth - It's nothing like the Tolstoy ink, but it's a very pretty ink.

I wish I'd bought two bottles of this when I had the chance. Have had a pen inked with it ever since I bought it.

This color reminds me of Akkerman Israel's Zeeblauw.

I saw this review having searched for one. A very thorough and interesting look at it across a whole range of papers and nibs. Thanks for taking the time and effort to do this.  :)

Nice review. Interesting colour, too. Does anyone know how similar this is in person to Tsuki-yo? Thanks.

Very useful link, thanks. With a finer, wet nib it seems they would extremely similar indeed. In the discussion there they found the Montblanc ink contained red which the Pilot didn't, in addition to the higher concentration of green.
