Hello From Western Massachusetts!

Hi everyone!

Finally got around to making an account here- I've been into fountain pens for about a year now, and absolutely love the hobby! I have a small, but lovely, collection that I'm working on growing as I further familiarize myself with what I enjoy out of a pen, and what my needs tend to call for.

Really looking forward to getting to meet folks here, and to share some of my pics and experiences!

I've been introducing a couple of my friends into the hobby, too- which is great fun! I'm even working on organizing a monthly fountain pen meetup in my area!

Have a great day, all! :D

You have successfully entered a rabbit hole, who knows what it'll yield and where it'll lead.

Enjoy the fascinating journey and feel free to ask/share... thumbup.gif

Greetings from Pittsburgh! :W2FPN:

I usually suggest that new folks click on the "View New Content" button at the top of the page, in order to get a manageable overview of a range of topics. And to check out the pinned Index to the the Ink Reviews (although a lot of old images were hijacked by Photobucket... :().

Oh, be warned that we are all shameless enablers here, who will happily help you spend your discretionary funds on pens, inks, paper, repair tools, ephemera, pen shows (the Commonwealth Show, just north of Boston in Somerville, just got scheduled for IIRC September 15th, which is a Sunday -- it's a small show but a good starter show; yeah, I know you said Western Massachusetts but MA is a small state compared to PA),

So, what pens and inks do you currently have?

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Welcome to the FPN.

It's always good to meet people having this hobby. I found people who like fountain pens are usually humble and friendly :)

BTW which of your pens are currently inked?

I won't ask on a public forum where in Western MA you are, but I too am in Western MA. A recent transplant from California. I've found that the beauty of this area has renewed my interest in fountain pens and writing in general; it had become rather somnolent for awhile. I'm solidly in the vintage pens and flexible nibs camp myself. Since I have all the pens I am ever likely to want, I am now delving into interesting inks and papers ....

If you do indeed have a pen meet-up please let me in on it!!

Welcome to the FPN from West Virginia and a former Massachusetts resident. Love the western part of the state and spent many weekends camping on Mt. Greylock.

Enjoy the adventures in the fountain pen world,

When the pupil is ready, the teacher will come.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
