It is my sad duty to inform you all that Leather inc. in Lexington Ky. is closing after 30 plus years in business. They have (had) the largest selection of writing instruments in central Kentucky. Everything is on sale and is 20% off as of now. Their last day will be in the middle of August. The store is located in Palomar Center at the intersection of Man O War and Harrodsburg road in Lexington. With this closing,,there will be no pen shops in the central Ky area.

That is a shame. They were always friendly and helpful. Actually, I think their move from Lexington Green to Palomar hurt their business.

I'm pretty sad about this, they've been my go-to for years. Well-earned retirement for them though! I went in yesterday to see if they had any kaweco liliputs left (they did not) but ended up taking home a couple other kawecos and some private reserve cartridges.

FYI for anyone interested, they've still got a really good stock of PR short cartridges but bottled ink in most brands is pretty sparse. Still a really good selection of pens though, but I got the impression they might have only a couple left of most. I don't think they ever kept a huge stock of most pens anyway, other than the more popular/less expensive ones.

Sample Request: I really really want to try Diamine Steel Blue. I will trade you samples!

I went into the store today(8/10) and found that all pens were50% off(Sheaffer was 60%off). There were several higher end pens left; Pelikan , Pilot, Cross, Pinider, and some Online and Lamy Safaris and Kaweco; there were some Delta pens that were left over in their discount display that were already marked down with no further discounts. I found out their last day will be Saturday, 8/17. The nearest pen store will then be Appointments in Cincinnati.

Just came from there a bit ago. Picked up a Pelikan 200 Amber, some ink and a Kaweco ice sport. They had 60% off all pens that were not already on closeout. The owner said that it had been pretty much 24/7 for 34 years. It was time. I hate to see them go, but I understand.

Just came from there and pens are selling down- still some less expensive pens and a lot of Sheaffer ballpoints as well as Online pens a lot of Cross pens( Ferrari and some upper level models). Think there were still some Lamy Safaris left. I got a Parker Premier fountain pen and several Lamy ballpoint refills. I found that they extended the sale for another week, but will close at 5pm or so each day.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
