I Almost Love My New Twsbi Eco, Alas

I recently rediscovered my love of fountain pens, and having learned that after 10 years away the market has suddenly decided to make all the pens exactly how I like them, i went on a bit of a buying binge :) My most recent purchase is an Eco with a stub 1.1 nib, and I mostly sort of love it but not quite.

Is it possible to get this nib ground or adjusted to be crispier? Because it's whatever the opposite of that is. (What's the term for that?) I'm asking because Nib Grinder (http://www.nibgrinder.com/shop) specifically calls out this nib as something he can't modify, and maybe that's just Nib Grinder or maybe that's a thing?

As a point of reference, my favorite pens are Pilot 78G B's and BB's, which I'm told are super crispy, and I would very much like my new Twsbi to write a little more like those pens.

Thanks guys!

I have several TWSBI Ecos with the 1.1 stub nibs. They do not deliver the really sharp edge, but if they did they would likely not be nearly as smooth. Compared to other stubs, the TWSBIs do have a bit of an edge.

If you are looking for a crisper line, you may want to consider a nib other than a stub, such as an italic.

If you can't find someone to adjust the nib for you (and aren't game to try it yourself), have a look at fpnibs.com - they sell TWSBI Eco (and other) nibs at reasonable prices, and custom grind them to your preference for very reasonable prices. I have a "crisp-ish italic" they ground for me (for a TWSBI Diamond Mini) from a B nib, that might be right up your alley...

+1

Sounds like you want more of an italic nib, which you'll have to order separately from somewhere like fpnibs.com.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
