Hi

As a complete novice I have just bought a pen and now I don't know if I have been scammed, I don't think I have as the Pen was advertised as a Cross Century II but has BG on the clip, was this owned by Barry Gibb lol

Writes nicely for the little ink it has left and what do you think for £17....

And what refills would it take I need to start writing, preferably in black.

Thanks for any info :)

Head on over to the Cross subsection where you will likely find all you need to know. £17 seems pretty good to me tho as long as it writes well! :)

No worries! There's a section for most things. A 20minute browse will familiarise you with how everything's organised! Enjoy!

You have successfully entered a rabbit hole, who knows what it'll yield and where it'll lead.

Enjoy the fascinating journey and feel free to ask/share... thumbup.gif

We have all been there, done that.

Take your time and explore the forum, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. thumbup.gif

OTOH, a good buy as long as it writes well and is in decent condition.

Welcome! You will find lots of great information here and many suggestions to expand your collection.

The Cross looks great. I have a Cross Townsend and its a great writer.

Hello and Welcome to FPN!! Glad to have you as a member!! Your pen looks like the real deal and the price is good. The BG is likely a company logo and the pen was a service award or such. Cross uses their own cartridges so you need to find specific Cross Carts. I have seen them at Staples, so any office supply store may carry them.

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
