I would prefer to see branded pens that somehow seem related to the historical brand.

Fine that at least the "Swan" brand is save from being abused, I guess.

These are Taiwanese pens, according to someone in a previous thread who asked the Fountain Pen Hospital about them.

 

The Mabie Todd branding is being used solely to inflate the price.

It looks like generic "IPG" points - the heart of the old Mabie Todd fountain and dip pens was the nib. I have one of my ancestor's Mabie Todd New York dip pens from the late 1800s. It's the most flexible nib I've ever used, and gives excellent line variations with virtually no pressure. I've owned some of the vintage New York production fountain pens too. They're not as flexible, but they're still very flexible compared to a modern pen. So the new production pens seem to totally miss the boat, for me at least.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
